Comic Strip "Cathy" to Benefit Homeless Dogs and Cats

Monday, December 06, 2004

Cathy and Irving's WeddingIf you're a fan of "Cathy", a daily comic strip by Cathy Guisewite appearing in over 1,200 newspaper nationwide, then you already know that Cathy and her fiance Irving are getting ready for their wedding on February 5, 2005.

But what you may not know is that the couple have set up a gift-registry at TheBigDay.com containing items that benefit Pet Orphans of Southern California, a not-for-profit rescue organization for dogs and cats. Some of the items listed in the gift registry include:
  • Someday My Prince Will Come - a $100.00 donation to Pet Orphans of Southern California
  • In Sickness and In Health - gives a homeless dog or cat a veterinarian check up
  • All We Need is Love, Not More Children - provides a homeless dog or cat with a free spay or neutering.
  • Here Comes the Dinner Bowl - provides free meals to five homeless dogs or cats.

By purchasing something from their gift registry, you will be helping a homeless dog or cat. In addition, you will receive a thank you note from Cathy and Irving, along with an autographed wedding cartoon. Cathy Guisewite and TheBigDay.com will each donate $1,000.00 to Pet Orphans of Southern California to get things started. You can visit their gift registry at: http://www.thebigday.com/cathy/

Cathy and Irving's dogs, Electra and Vivian, will be the ring bearers in the wedding, scheduled for February 5, 2005. "In the comic strip, both dogs were adopted from shelters. Cathy adopted Electra as a puppy, and Irving rescued Vivian as an older dog," Guisewite noted. "The gift registry will raise money to help many other homeless dogs and cats find loving new homes. In real life my daughter and I volunteer at Pet Orphans of Southern California and know first hand about the wonderful work they do, and the lives they save."
