A new kind of pet carrier is on the market, called the "Puppy Purse". It's basically a jacket that fits snugly around a dog's body, with a handles along the dog's back. You can then "wear" your dog around your body in various ways, either as a purse hanging from your shoulder, or a fanny pack strapped around your waist.
This is one of the most unhumane contraptions for dogs I have seen yet. Who would want to be suspended in the air, bouncing off someones hip while their body is in pain from the pressure on the chest? It's amazing people who own dogs and say they love them so much can be so cruel....just so they can look cute and get a little bit of attention.

But, when you carry a small dog, you usually carry it under the chest like that. So what is the difference really?

Actually, small dogs develop bad hips because their owners don't know how to carry them. They are supposed to be supported on their bottoms so their hind legs don't dangle and the hip joints are fully supported. Carry your small dog with both hands or make sure the bottom is resting on your arm. I do agree that this purse does not seem to be best for a small dog.

Maybe if there was something similar, but without the holes for the back legs, more room in back so they can be resting the back legs and have support, but still be more "in the open" than in a traditional closed carrier...?? I wouldn't want to use a closed carrier in the summer when it gets 90+ outside.

These purses aren't new, I used one about 15 years ago and my puppy turned out just fine. It didn't hurt her in any way shape or form. She enjoyed every mintue of being carried in one and as mentioned it was better than being carried in a carrier when the weather was 90 degrees. And believe me there was nothing cute about this carrier, it was convenient to say the least.

I saw a PuppyPurse on Good Morning America recently and their vet said ti was safe for small dogs. My friend got a PuppyPurse a few months ago for her 6 pound Maltese and they both love it!

I tried the puppy purse with Tera and she was fine with it. Perhaps if you carried your dog for a long period of time it might cause problems. But the puppy purse does provide a lot of support -- along the whole length of the body. My only concern was that Tera is a 15-week old Mini Schnauzer and I think she might grow out of it quite quickly.

Now all we need is a zippered pouch inserted via surgery into the dog. Then you can have a best friend and a useful carryall attached to your hip!
Just kidding.
