"You'll get hurt if you trip over her in the middle of the night," Curnyn said.According to a city councilman who voted for the pit bull ban:
Marley is diabetic, blind and crippled, but under the new ordinance, Marley must be licensed and insured for at least $100,000, which she is. Curnyn must have a "beware of dog" sign, and a 6-foot fence around his yard, which he does.
"It was the right decision from a legal standpoint," said Council Bluffs City Councilman Chad Primmer, who voted for the new pit bull ordinance. "The evidence is these dogs are two-to-one more likely to result in fatality if there's an attack. I can't take that chance."My take on this is that this law was put in place because of misunderstanding. There is a belief that pit bulls are naturally dangerous. Frequent stories of pit bulls attacking people and other dogs happen because the owners allow it happen. Pit bulls can become aggressive dogs if they are put into a situation where they are allowed to become aggressive, such as kept chained, not fed regularly, or abused.
I agree they shouldnt plunish the breed but plunish the ones who abbused the breed and use the dogs for wrong things.
I loved my Pit, and miss her since she passed.

I am in complete agreement I currently have two pits and live near Marshalltown Iowa. We want to start a Pit Bull Rescue here in town due to the fact you can't find really any shelter here in Iowa that will shelter a Pit let alone adopt one out. I think that it is our governments fault to begin with that these precious animals have a bad name. If they would have had more strict rules about adopting, breeding, and fighting there would be no problem. It is not the animals' fault that they respond as they do because of how they have been treated.

I now own two pittbulls, and we had to move because their banned in bellevue, ne, so we had to move somewhere where we could have them. I think that if you raise them right, you wont have any problems, these are my 6th pitbulls that i have had, and i have never had a problem with any of them.

I now own two pitbulls, and even though I live in Nebraska, it is still hard finding a place that will accept pitbulls. These are my 6th pits that I have owned, and I have never had a problem with any of them.

I agree also, there is no reason to punish the breed. I was attacked by a golden retriever when I was a child, but that doesn't mean that all golden retrievers are bad it just means the one that attacked me had bad owners. Go after the owner not the dog. It's rediculous to ban a breed of animal. It seems that the government and some very ignorant people wish this breed to go extinct. I say fight the power!!!

I can agree. Honestly though if you look through statistics smaller dogs (aka ankle biters) do more damage than anything. OUr society just chooses what to/or not to show! An obviously they choose a breed that is anything but what they make it to be! AS u said its to save stupid people from themselves an it is! These dogs are wonderful an people just need to be educated before opening their mouths!

this is a cop-out. any breed of dog can attack and injur another dog or person. it is all in the way they are raised.i have a root and my family have 6 pitbulls.
all of our dogs have been raised around children and other dogs and cats.my root and their pitbukks get together and all they do is play.
this ban is a result of ignorate people make haste dicission based on their personal fears and not statistics.
i'm sorry that you and everyone that has to deal with any sort of pet banning

I just witnessed a pit bull attack in Marshalltown. I hope the dog is killed along with all the other pit bulls on the planet.
By , at 5:45 PM, September 15, 2007
just becuase you saw a pitbull attack someone doesnt mean that all of them attack people. ive seen a person attack another person, that doesnt mean we need to kill all the humans. i do agree that they should ban pitbulls because most ppl use them for fighting but you should be able to take a class and get certified so you can keep them

"I just witnessed a pit bull attack in Marshalltown. I hope the dog is killed along with all the other pit bulls on the planet."
I hope your child is born retarded...well... with your level of intelligence, it most certainly will. People like you shouldnt be allowed to use the internet.

Why dont you give the details, where and when you witnessed this pitbull attack? I think you are lying. I read the TR, never saw anything about it. Maybe the dog didnt like you, since you are a dog hater!

I'm a longtime dog owner and I think pitbulls are nasty dogs. There are exceptions to the rule, but they are exceptions. I live in South Omaha and have had several encounters with unleashed pit bulls trying to attack me or my dog. Two times the owner was nearby and was able to get control of the dog. By and large they are owned by lower class individuals who own them because they are "tough dogs" (the dogs, not the people). Do I have to do as the Romans (Midwesterners) do and buy a gun and shoot these damn dogs the next time they try to attack me or my dog? Thank God I'm moving back to suburban Connecticut where the toughest dog around is the Golden Retriever. And I won't have to carry a gun around with me every time I walk my dog.

I have 3 children and live in Cedar Rapids ia. Our neighbors have 3 pit-bulls and they are always on the loose. My children are afraid to even go outside and play. The dogs have even approached my front door growling at my kids. How safe are we?

Ha! Indeed, thank God you're moving back to the suburbs, bastion of the whiny and unreasonable. Life is dangerous, kiddo, and you can't hide from it. If it's not dogs (and it still might be, especially if you're foolish enough to think the only ones you need to worry about are pits), it'll be drunk drivers, punk kids with nothing to do, etc. Enjoy your homeowners assocation.

You Said you live in South Omaha. Idiot. You moved there. Look at the people living in your neighborhood rather than blaming the breed. ANY dog will act like a fool in those conditions. Open your eyes and mind to EVERYTHING, and educate yourself before you state an opinion so you don't look ignorant!!! Imagine if everyone who got bit by a poodle reported it to animal control or the law. WOULD POODLES BE BANNED??? If it was a city councilmans' son/daughter that was bitten... well for sure.
Educate yourselves first. Then state your educated opinion, not just based on the MEDIA (what they want you to hear!)

Studies show that up to 74% of all attacks by dogs are pit bulls, or pit bull mixes. Face it people when PETA recognizes they are dangerous... well you should get it. Do an internet search on dog bite statistics, and then keep your pit bulls where they can only kill your children, not mine. Darwinism will take care of the rest.

I have grown up around pit bulls and I own two myself, and I have never wittnessed an aggresive pit bull. I am not saying there isn't aggresive ptu bull but every dog breed has aggresive dogs. One of my pit was attacked by a very small dog and know has scars on his neck from it but as i wittnessed the attack I never saw my pit lash out at the small dog. Pit bulls are vry loving and friendly dogs. It is the people that ause these dogs that give the pit bull breed a bad name. Punish the people not the dog.

If anyone is seeking a Pit Bull/Staffy Breeds, our rescue is seeking LOVING forever homes in area's with NO BAN on this awsome breed. A very sad day when we punish the entire breed for what others have taught their dogs to do..... Check out ours needing homes: http://fryscountrybargains.org Lucky has been waiting for awhile and sadly he is a very sweet dog that because of mis information is not able to get a home. Please pass him onto area's without a ban so he can get a great and loving family for life!

I read a PETA statement on here.... I think MAYBE education on PETA may be a good idea! I think you are under the impression PETA saves animals... Quite the contrary.... Education is the key, not TERROR TACTICS! 28 years of pet rescue & I think YOU have been lead to live in an illusion, not in facts... Here is the link, PLEASE take the time to educate yourselves!
http://petakillsanimals.com
http://consumerfreedom.com
Please stop educationg with rumors and PLEASE start education wit FACTS! By the way the MOST attacks occur with DOXIES... Pit Bulls are 6th on the list, not the TOP of the list., 2nd is a Chihuahua..... Pit Bulls that are attacking are TRAINED by their owners and are normally owned by DRUG ADDICTS and criminals. Pit Bulls that are owned by loving families are VERY sweet and loving..... PLEASE EDUCATE yourselves instead of mis informing others and spreading FALSE "RUMORS".

I have been around dogs all my life, theres rarely been a time when we didnt own one. they've predominately been shepards, we had a rottie and my sister has had a rottie, several pits and my brother now has a pit. for the dumdum who said they are owned by people who are low class no money trying to be tough...we are about as upper middle class as they come and about as white as they come... for those who said PETA anything-- peta is a bunch of losers. look in to their stats. they last i read were in court for the things they are doing as far as telling shelters they were going to take animals and adopt them out and then taking the animals and euthanizing them illegally and ilegally dumping them in to dumpsters behind grocery stores (they got caught by the authorities).
saying that 75% of dog bites are pits is just absolutely wrong. i cant tell you how many times some little yap yap has tried to or actually succeeded in biting me and never once have i been bitten by a pit or any other dog people like u think are bad. they arent more likely to bite, its the fact that if they do bite they will do more damage and that is why they are reported more.
i worked in an animal hospital for over a year. ive worked with all breeds and have been gone after by more cats then any of these bully breeds. ive sat in a cage with a shepard after surgery ive held pits ive handles them in the exam rooms where if a dog is going to go bad theres a good place for it to happen and never once have i felt even the slightest bit threatened. on the other hand a chihuahua tried so viciously to get at me he was banging against his cage door making noises ive never even heard before and i was onthe other side of a closed door. these are the dogs who have more aggression problems. the difference is who reports a chihuahua or a golden bite?
and those who say keep the dogs where they can kill your kids not mine... my sisters pit grew up with my niece and is more tolerant then any dog ive met. my niece uses her for a pillow while watching tv...and then theres my aunts golden who attacked my little cousin for no apparant reason and had to be sent away.
any dog with teeth is capable of biting. its the people who own and breed these dogs who should be held resposible. becuase more times then not a dog of these breeds who has any sort of bad behavior is the result of an idiot breeding two dogs that shouldnt be bred and an owner who neglects or abuses his/her dog. and then u get a dog who bites. same as any breed out there.
these dogs are misunderstood. people should stop being so damned ignorant and know all the facts.

I've never really been around pits but i have a rottweiler and everyone says that they are so bad and scary but they couldnt be more wrong my dog is the sweetest dog she things shes a 5lb lap dog and she just got attacked by a half lab half german shepard and she didnt even growl back she just walked right over to me and just wanted to play more. I would love to have a pit to show everyone just like i showed everyone with my rottie that they are not bad dogs its the owner and how they are raised. Those of you that left comments saying there was a pit that was on the loose or not on a leash...well who's fault is that? not the dogs its not going to put a leash on itself and tie itself up that is the owners fault ofcourse if they let them out and dont watch them they are going to wander that is the OWNERS fault!! I am completely against banning the breed!
By , at 11:13 AM, September 18, 2008
People who think pit bulls should be banned are just plain stupid. Just like everyone else was saying it is the owner who does this to the dogs. If a person has a temper they get to take classes or medicene but what happens to pits and other breeds they get put down and its not fair. people dont get near as much punishment for cruelty to animals as they should get. There is no way the government cound even try and pass this law. It's unfair and unhumane.

I need advice and help. I'm not even sure where to turn to.
They decided yesterday to kill Mojo, my best friends pit. He is the most loving, caring dog you will ever meet.
He has never bitten anyone! He got into a little scruffel 3 weeks ago with the little neighbor dog.
That dog ran up to him barking and Mojo was just defending himself. There were no marks on either dogs.
They have had him in isolation for 21 days and they are trying to kill him.
I believe Des moines is one of the places trying to ban pits.
She has a home for him to go to until she moves too, a home where he grew up with 2 other dogs and a fenced in yard.
please help us with any advice on keeping him alive
