Um...how could ANYBODY be so dumb as to purchase a puppy online?! Please people, for the love of Dog, do not purchase dogs or puppies, but adopt them. There are SO many puppies and dogs in shelters that need a home. Also, make sure to check out breed specific recue organizations if you're dead set on a purebred.

I wish all puppy mills would go under investigation and get shut down. What a cruel and inhumane practice. Please do not support pet stores that sell puppies, or buy puppies online.

Look to the right of the screen folks. Ads for puppies on line sponsored by Google and Doggienews.com. I guess the ad money wins again and the animals lose again. Shame on you Google and DoggieNews.

Good point about the puppy-for-sale ads on DoggieNews. As the publisher of DoggieNews, I'm going to monitor these ads, and block them from appearing on our website. Thanks, Steve.

With dogs being a fully domesticated animal HUMANS have a responsibility to care for them. There is no place in our society for dogs to live outside of the human environment. ( we've taken most of the earth anyway and the wild ones scarcely have any ecosystem left ) Its long overdue to pass laws protecting these animals from evil in humans. When will we stand up and care? Its utterly disgusting how humans can regard living breathing loving creatures as "merchandise". Time to charge these people with crimes.

It's funny because Doggienews.com has a full section on how puppy mills are wrong and dogs should be adopted - not bought. I hope they are not posting ads for puppy mills, as this would be very contradictory. I have referred this site to many people on Doggiedoor.com and, if this is true, they will loose all credibility and I will make others aware of this. -Evecchiola@hotmail.com

You can only filter ads to a point-
Are you going to stop using Yahoo?AOL?Explorer?Google? because search engines give you links to buy puppies? NO
Be realistic, This site is awesome, and does NOT condone Puppy mills, using Yahoo,Google is ways to (inform & get people to the site) all dog lovers everywhere- Using these advertising techniques is a great way to spread the news about puppy mills, and pet actions.
The pro's totally outwiegh the cons when using top search engines.

hello, fyi I hate puppy mills, one of our dogs was the product of one and we "rescued" her for $1600 from the local Corbret's; $1000 vet bill later she makes a loving pet despite an expectation of continuing health probs.she is our only CKC registered dog too. I currently have 3 beautiful pups (from a different mother) its only my third litter in 6 years so I wouldn't even qualify as a breeder let alone a puppy mill, but am tired of the trash from both sides. In Canada I am not allowed to call my dogs "purebred" because they are not registered with the CKC. Piper's parents are both registered but she and her littermates were not so suddenly their blood's been tainted... uh huh. I cannot get a kennel license becuz my dogs are not registered...i can be fined or put in jail and my dogs confiscated... how barbaric. my vet feels i should become a breeder just becuz of the quality of my pups (whose bloodlines can be verified by my vet and all pups get microchipped and can be tracked). but becuz I don't agree with the CKC or the AKC for that matter and their registration practices well I can't legally breed my dogs either. course just becuz my tiny toys never have 13 pup litters doesn't mean that's not the norm for the "acceptable professional breeders" right? like they wouldn't group 3 or 4 litters as one now would they? and u now preach that the internet should not be used? that makes me real curious as to who that message is really coming from... well I dont use the internet to sell my pups for one main reason... I dont have a web page and at nearly 5o have not got the knowledge to create one. but that does not mean that i dont enjoy perusing the ads and even contact some of them. not to buy pups anymore, I cant have anymore without a kennel license and there's no need to go into that again. but i have met numerous other "gentleman breeders" some only on the net, others in person when we were going thru their states (we were truck drivers, my dogs and I). no rather than spouting 1984 and banning ads and burning books i suggest u use the ads wisely. as an initial contact and that u go and pickout / pickup your puppy in person. as for doggienews u could simply require a valid address and landline number for your records prior to publication on your site. the more folks u encourage to visit the places the better chance u have of exposing and shutting down the puppy mills, and at the same time be a supportive force for the guy or gal breeding nice healthy well-tempered pups. the responsibility is there on both sides of that fence you're sitting on... the buyer should not try or want to buy mailorder nor would i release any of my pups to someone, anyone who did not meet my dogs and pass the "multiple puppy acceptance test" in other words if my animals shy from you, you dont get a puppy i dont care how much money u offer. my girls have travelled all over Canada and the US and very rarely disliked anyone so its a rather accurate test. my pups just turned 5 weeks, one was sold in his first week another when she was 3 days short of 3 weeks and the 3rd is on a definate maybe. their future people come by for visits once or twice every week. that is what we should be encouraging no matter how u contact me in the first place.

We, too, are experiencing problems with the "Back"yard breeders! We just adopted what she called a newfie mix (it's like 80% border collie!) and got no health records to speak of as promised; we luckily withheld 2/3 of her payment but did cover the $170 freight charge to get her to Maine. I think she has some health issues. They threatened to sue for the rest of the funds even though they misrepresented dog's age, breed, background, and no vet records other than one rabies shot. We are hoping this girl doesn't have the dermo/mange problem but I have a bad feeling about her itching and I know it isn't fleas. Barb knew we were also getting a Katrina rescue - a golden puppy and have three cats here, one of whom is 14 years old. If this woman knowingly omitted sending vet records due to covering up an illness, I will be more than happy to offer our names in a suit. If you need my help, feel free to call us at home.

My report to the BBB 1/20/06 re: Barbara Back, Bach, Brown (she has used all and reports of misrepresentation, sick puppies, etc. are all over the Net and bulletin boards online):
Consumer's Original Complaint :
On 1/7/06, gave downpayment for Newfie/Pyrenees 4 mo. old pup pictured and described on NextDayPets.com 1/7/06 paid $85 downpayment to Barbara Back (Bach, Brown) and $14 moneygram.com fee to her County Rd. address. Pup was in car with her so ship 1/7 vs. my later desired date. Freight fee paid to Delta $170. Our vet bill: $166.48 Pup is 7 +/- mos. old, not a healthy Newfie/Pyrenees mix in confirmation nor temperament. My vet says Corgi mix. Photo and age shown on NextDay outdated by 3-4 mos. No answers to my questions; failure to adhere to many contract terms; no verifiable proof of shots/wormings so we re-vaccinated; pup has mites; no answer to anything other than ask for her balance. This is not a non-profit rescue but a puppy mill. Her litter mates are still being advertised - and as Lab mixes.
Consumer's Desired Resolution:
We have spent much money to wind up with a dog that was misrepresented and for whom we can get no BONAFIDE, verifiable nor even background info. We chose a Newfie mix for temperament. This pup is Corgi-minded. She'll need to be spayed ASAP due to her ACTUAL age. I phoned her vet and informed him as to the situation. He had changed pup's age to circa 6 months, though we never got a copy of the health certificate, as Barbara advertised nor proof of shots (other than her notes which say "8 wks, 10 wks. 12/29" She says she self-administers them. No proof of wormings. She shipped out several dogs that same day. The vet said I was not his 1st call about Barbara this week. In our eyes, it seems that other than being a canine and arriving in Maine, the whole deal was misrepresented. We have not paid her balance as she has not adhered to her contract on many counts. We instead chose to put the funds into seeing that this pup gets and is healthy. If we adopt her out to a new home as a better fit(will thoroughly check references, vet recommmendation, AND do a home visit!) to ensure the happiness of our other dog and 3 cats, we will be eating the above expense. I have adopted before. I love animals and am no activist, but will NOT be sending this pup back to AL where she'd most likely be in ill health and be bred to whomever to produce a "whatever mix", be euthanized or sold again to someone expecting the truth.

GOOD POINT
theres alot of dogs getting killed reason:being born
and people not wanting them i mean if you own a dog PLEASE spay or neuter them theres a million puppies and dogs being killed at the animal shelter. And the thing is its a very unpleasent tought. PLEASE PEOPLE TRY TO GIVE A HOMELESS DOG A HOME. instead of buying them consider adopting them first. ITS NOT FAIR inocent little puppies and older dogs are being killed and the last thing they get to see before they die is a creepy office and mean vets. that kill them they should die happily in a home with a happy family.
