More Information on PETA Animal Cruelty Case

Friday, June 17, 2005

Now that this "cat" has been let out of the bag, more information is getting published about PETA, and it's practices of euthanasia. An organization by the name of "The Center for Consumer Freedom" has issued a press release noting that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Center notes that PETA makes a practice of killing most of the animals it rescues, as much as 85 percent, while finding homes for just 14 percent. The Center goes on to note that some SPCA centers are just the opposite, finding homes for a majority of its animals.
While PETA has claimed that most of the animals it kills are "broken beings," the dead animals discovered by North Carolina police included a female cat and -- according to a local veterinarian -- her two "very adoptable" kittens. "These were just kittens we were trying to find homes for," he told PETA's hometown Virginian-Pilot. "PETA said they would do that, but these cats never made it out of the county."
Wait a minute! If an animal is so bad off healthwise, then why isn't PETA sparing no expense to save it? Isn't it considered "ethical treatment" to provide life-saving veterinary care to a sick animal? PETA is a group that has the words "ethical treatment" in its name.

I guess you can call me ignorant, because I had no idea that PETA euthanized animals at all. I had this crazy notion that PETA cared for each and every animal on this planet. I know the Humane Society euthanizes animals, I know that the SPCA euthanizes too, but I didn't expect PETA to do this.

For example, PETA is an organization that protests the killing of chickens for human consumption. This is an organization that protests fishing, plain old fishing, arguing that "fishing hurts".

Now I understand the truth about PETA. You see, they don't care about the welfare of any specific animal. They care about the ideology. They spend their money on the media campaigns, the lobbyists, and the protests. But ask them to spend $1,000.00 providing surgery to a sick dog, and they'll probably laugh at you. It's the politics they care about.

Next time you think about donating money to PETA, donate it to local rescue group instead.

  • don't let media propaganda sway your common sense, want to know facts go to the sources they write about.
by the way. 6-10 million animals are taken into shelters/facilities/dog pounds, and dropped at animal control and vets offices..
3-6 million of these animals are euthanized. there are 4,000 to 6,000 existing or opening a new shelters.
by the way, the euthanizing of peta animals was humane...and injections. not gas chambers..
what public should focus on is the half live animals of over crowded gas chambers, and dumped in landfills as is, like the dallas area. other other gas chamber incidents where people have died from faulty chambers and gas release and still living half live animals. it takes 20 min to prep, kill and remove an animal from a gas chamber, the animal suffers terribly, and is affixated by the fumes. takes exactly 10 minutes to kill that animal, where injection only takes sec. and no suffering and pain..

  • I'm glad I came across this. I had no idea PETA was euthanizing. I was planning on donating, but I will stick with our local humane society.

  • The Center for Consumer Freedom is a front for a number of giant corporations, such as Tyson and others, who dislike PETA because of PETA's campaigns against these companies. These companies use the CCF as a way to push their agenda against PETA, animal rights, vegetarianism and other related issues. I read about this in several publications not affiliated with PETA, such as Vegetarian Times. The CCF is a highly suspect source for information regarding PETA.

  • I cannot believe that after all I've heard about in my lifetime from PETA about how much they care about animals, that they end up killing them. All the money that they have taken in should be used to house unwanted animals for the rest of their lives. I thought that was on their agenda. No - they'd rather get rid of unwanted animals by "putting them to sleep". This is just mind- numbing. PETA is supposed to stand for animal rights. Please do not EVER give any more money to them. You are just putting another mercedes in their garage. They do not care AT ALL for animal welfare. Find a good no-kill shelter, and send them your money. I personally, and my husband, are heartbroken about this.

  • I just ran across this story as AOL has posted some info on it. I believe after watching this video and seeing witnesses that it has to be true. It appears the only logical explanation is that Peta created this 'business' in order to make money off of these poor animals. I'm not sure why they spend money to pay people to go abduct animals under false pretenses and euthanise them... healthy animals yet. If they spent money helping most of these animals they would not have the money for the fancy office buildings, salaries of the board, etc. It's the bottom line. I'm sorry anonymous missed the whole point. This is about animal cruelty, dumping, health violations. Does Peta even have authority to carry out these 'diagnosis' and acts? Does anyone know what happened as far as the Hinkle/Cook trial?

  • IMPORTANT: Just went to the petakillsanimals.com site. While I no longer support Peta, I must caution everyone to be extremely careful of that site. It appears they also take so called donations (for other causes as well) to get the word out on these shady organizations but don't support any cause to help those affected by them. The 'about us' page also basically insinuates anyone that has supported Peta (most I'm sure not knowing of this nasty news) are extremists. The way it's written gives the impression they don't care any more about animals than Peta. I wouldn't support either of them.

  • I think it's important to note that PETA admits to being against private pet ownership and even seeing-eye dogs, which they call "slaves." Moreover, every penny PETA raises goes to media, marketing and lobbying--not a dime is allocated to conservation efforts.

  • I was horrified when I read this news. If anyone wants to donate money or time, please review my stepmothers website. http://tlconline.org/
She gives much info on how to curb the overpopulation of unwanted animals without killing and has her own no-kill shelter in Michigan.

  • Well I for one have done plenty of research and PETA will NEVER get a penny from me. Nor will IAMs the dog food company,EVER. Nor greenpeace. PETA should invest the PUBLICS cash on funding year round spay and nuter clinics then they might do the animals actual good. They have the kahoonas to compare the holocaust to chickens! Euthanize on the fly by PETA!They would rather we kill all the "pets". They have a new world order agenda of their own? How have they lasted this long? For peta's sake find them an island where nothing grows and have them find food. Humm I wonder what will they eat? o_O

  • For PETA to be euthaizing animals is horrible, because it has become just another hypocritical organization out to take your money that only pretends to stand for something good. PETA, you should be ashamed!

  • okay, i work in a vets office, and all the animals euthanized there are done by injection, and i have heard the same from many MANY places. There are also a lot of low kill/ no kill shelters and welfare leagues that do their best to find homes for all their animals. Injection is more common than gas chambers. I have also worked in shelters before, and injection is definatly the most common way of euthanasia.

  • If everyone had their pets spayed or neutered and gave up animal products, there would be no need for PETA.

  • I am in shock as i just found out about this story via the internet. Seeing as this started over 2 years ago, man, do i feel bamboozled. I thought PETA was for SAVING animals and protecting them. According to what i have seen and been reading, they seem to think dead animals are much better off. I am shock that they are euthanizing perfectly adoptable animals moments after they pick them up. I have lost all faith in PETA, i will never donate another cent and i am going to stop my verbal support for them and erase them from my myspace page. With all the money they have raised, they should have opened a non-kill shelter and taken care of these animals until they have found good homes for them like the North Shore Animal League. I was totally unaware that PETA took in animals period. I thought they just lobbied for the humane treatment of ALL animals no matter what they are used for like zoos, circuses, etc. Although i didn't agree with EVERYTHING they do, I was assuming they were for the greater good. Now i am convinced they are horrible killers. I am still reeling from the news. How can they do this and still claim they are for the Ethical treatment of animals? What is ethical about euthanizing an animal before you even attempt to find it a good or better home? People trusted them to help and they just killed the animals. I don't get this and I am horrified! They are not getting another cent from me!
