380 dogs is horrible, these people are crazy and have no knowledge of what these dogs are really like. I am sure there are some that are nasty because someone trained it to be that way but I am sure that those poor dogs waiting to be put down are wagging tails and giving kisses to these monsters that are putting them to sleep because of their breed. I am sickened by this since I am the owner of 5 pit bulls and cant imagine what the owners of the dogs are going through. So sad! May there be relief in sight and let someone wake up and realize it is the bad dog owners that are making these monsters. Its 2005 Denver we dont bunch anything in one class anymore we go after the source! WAKE UP!

If they tried to pull this stunt in Ontario, I'd be in jail.

What can we, the common citizens, do to stop this unnecessary slaughter? There must be something that can be done. HELP! We need to speak and stand up for these animals!

It is inhumane! Denver is at the same level as the terrorists-stupid people! Maybe the altitude has affected their brains!

By generalizing about the people of Denver you are not helping anything at all. As a citizen of Denver, I too take issue with those enforcing the pit bull laws here. In truth, many many folks in the city are doing their very best to try to talk some sense into the lawmakers who are taking away dog owners' rights. There are people on 'our side' out there who really want to help. There have been "punish the deed, not the breed" rallies all over the city, and much bonding between pit bull owners and non-owners alike. I think I can fairly say that the majority of responsible dog owners here agree that confiscating and euthanizing ANY pet is absurd. Unfortunately we now need to get that message through to those who don't understand. Rather than just bitch about it, take action. Write letters, make phone calls, go to rallies. People can make a difference. http://www.petitiononline.com/savecyan/petition.html

There are some websites out to help save the Denver Pitbulls. One thing that is really needed is individuals to offer foster homes for the Denver pitbull pets until their owner is able to move out of the city. You can go to this website for more information.

This link also directs you to letters/petitions to help the repeal the ban.

ALL dogs with even a hint of pit bull lineage should be banished to the wilds of Yellowstone where the 'wild' grey wolves would very quickly 'euthanize' them without further cost to the law-abiding public. This would also benefit the native wildlife by providing an alternative food source for the wolfpacks. Thank you, Denver!

This year, at the "Nutt's For Mutts" Dog show, which was featured on ANIMAL PLANET, had as it's winner of "FRIENDLIEST DOG" Was a PIT mix. Not, fastest eater, or best wag...but friendliest...this dog is afraid of cats, drops on his back and rolls when a child approaches, so they will jump on him, then he sits quietly and wags his tail while a toddler pulls his hair and sticks their fingers in his mouth...he shares his food, and has made it possible to rescue many street dogs off the streets of LA, because he shows them how to behave. he also has an independent film to his credit, where in one scene, he had to share a real steak with a person...they BOTH had one end in their mouths...the scene ended with many face kisses so the actor and entire crew were laughing...he is a therapy dog, has gone to shelters to be petted by homeless kids, because of his docile demeanor...this has been my experience of all pits i have met. I have been bitten by a lhasa, chiauau, and cocker spaniel. german shepard. Never a pit. Yes I am aware of what happens, and unfortunately, because of their strong jaws, they cause more damage when they bite, but they don't bite with frequency, and responsible owners know how to train them. how about we teach dog behavior to anyone who gets a dog. Their is no good reason to enact breed specific legislation, there are many wonderful loving dogs that are maligned by ignorance. Sorry Denver, it's a horrible shame.

I could cry. I am sick about this inhumane treatment of animals. What breed is next? Rottweilers? German Shepherds? These dogs are part of someone's family. How can you yank a family member out of their home and kill them? Isn't this what happens in other countries, not ours?
I am ashamed that we have voted these people into office. Let's make sure we vote them out asap! Let's also do everything we can to stop this from going any further.

I couldn't beleive it when I heard about ban on pitbulls. I have one that I call my little attention whore, he loves people.
he doesn't have a an aggresive side at all. My brother has two that are the same way. If some idiot official tried to murder my dog ,well lets say i'd rather see him end up that way. You get a mean dog no matter what the breed if the owner has intentions of making the dog that way!!!!

So it's the owners, not the dogs - Hey, I say the owners are reflected in the dogs.
Nov. 6, 2005— A 10-year-old boy narrowly survived a vicious pit-bull attack and is recovering at the hospital this morning.
Greg Jones, of Aurora, Colo. was attacked by three dogs on Wednesday.

ya know what, i work for cary fire protection district and you have no idea the amount of carnage these dogs caused. These dogs were not trained to fight or mistreated in any way. The owner of the dogs even got attacked by them. Pit bulls are an evil breed and should be banned in my opinion.

I dont have a pit bull, but my american bull dog falls under the catagory of "restricted breeds".What angers me is the fact that a felony sex offender has to pay a one time fee of 185.00 to register has a sex offender then 60.00 a year after that. But I have to pay 200.00 to register my 5yr old bull dog every year. maybe if my dog raped people instead of licking them or barking at them it sure would be cheaper.. whats wrong with this picture

Killer Dogs? Remember Petey from the Little Racals? Spuds McKenzie? They're pit bulls!
Pit Bulls are only aggressive when trained to be, or abused. I have Chihuahuas that are more dangerous than any pit bull I've come across.
Look at this latest posting from Craigslist Denver -- it's heartbreaking:
We just moved into Denver and animal control picked up our two pitbull puppies. We have to get them out by Monday and need a home for them. They are 6 and 8 mos. old and are housetrained. They are child friendly, very loving and affectionate. If we can't find a home, they will be destroyed. Unfortunately we're on a time crunch and we have to pay to get them out by Monday and find them a home, where they are legal. If anyone is interested or has any suggestions, please call Tifany at 720-935-0064. We have the money to get them out, we just can't keep them in the city limits. Thanks!!
This is a bad law written in ignorance and fear and should be rescinded.

them pitbulls are dangerous and you people who own them are stupid guess you wont wise up till it kills one of your family members but then it will be too late .

I love my American Pit Bull Terrier!
It's not the breed that is the problem. It's the mean people who abuse these beautiful animals. There are records of every breed attacking a human.
Canis familiaris puitiantini, a very large animal related to the wolf and similar to some primitive Molosos, and other from the Canis familiaris nostrazewi, a considerably smaller canid and more related to the dingo. It is believed that most canine breeds come from the crossbreeds of the small primitive dog with different canid breeds; like the wolf, golden jackal, etc.
Spay and Neuter!

Opponents of the Denver ban call into question why pit bulls are being singled out pointing to statitistics indicating that in 2005 there were 39 pit bull bites, but 72 German shepherd bites. The same year, there were 48 labrador bites and 39 chow bites. In 2004, there were 56 pit bull bites in Denver, but 78 German shepherd bites, 51 labrador bites and 42 chow bites.
Get your facts straight haters! Anyone with anything bad to say about pitbulls has never owned one and doesn't know a d*mn thing about the dogs! Labs attack people every day.. I was bit by a chow but that doesn't mean we should go singling out the breed!

Pitbulls are such nice lovable dogs, it all depends on how you raise them, if people teach them to be vicious and mean, its not the pitbulls fault. They are animals, they should not be killed for someone elses wrong doings. i have one pitbull and he is so loving i have a pomeranian and they both get along very well. My email if you have any comments or questions. kiran1979@hotmail.com

I truly hope, that they would stop killing innocent dogs because of their names and breeds, its really not fair. Just because these animals cant talk and speak for their rights, doesnt mean you take their lives. Stop killing them because one day it will be judgement day for all of us. For the the people that take part in these killings you wont live in peace with all the sins you have committed.
By , at 8:51 PM, January 16, 2007
what was that paper about the one thomas jefferson signed with ben franklin and the rest... nothing ? how about changing the bill of rights and call it big brother doesn't allow. Urine testing, divisions of child snatchers, DFS. now they get to say what kind of dog we can have or cant have . united communist state of american police we can call it i guess. are we gonna give up all our civil liberties/ time to hit those petition sites folks .

Pit bull owners should be prosecuted criminally for the actions of their animals. Injuries resulting in death should prosecuted as murder.
The problem with pursuing financial compensation for the horrible injuries caused by these animals is that so many of the owners are dirt bags gang bangers are other low lifes that have nothing to lose anyway.
Give them jail time.
By , at 6:31 AM, July 30, 2007
I do not understand your point. Obviously anyone who trains their dog to attack and does not keep it in a safe place should be prosecuted. That is regardless if it is a pit bull or any other breed.
But KILLING dogs simply because you think that they are dangerous simply because of their breed? That is absolutely sickening.
I do a lot of volunteer work at dog shelters and I have seen pitbulls which are dangerous and many which have the sweetest dispositions I have ever seen.
One of my friends has a pit named Noella, who is a very affectionate and gentle girl I would trust with an infant. She has never shown any aggression toward anybody and is absolutely as docile as a dog can be. But if she lived in Denver then she would be given a death sentence

Does anyone know what the extent of the Pitbull Ban in Denver? How far into the outskirts of Denver does it exist? Is this just the Downtown area? Anyone that knows the exact law and can provide me with some links to read up on this would be very helpful. I love my Pit and would like to know for future housing choices.
By Keith, at 5:25 PM, October 17, 2007
