If an animal control officer comes to the door looking for an illegal pit bull, volunteers are urging dog owners to deny them entrance and demand a search warrant. In the meantime, pit bull owners are told to call the "underground railroad" to have the dog ferried out of town or temporarily placed in one of the many safe houses inside and outside of Denver. It sounds like what happened in Windsor, Ontario, where pit bulls were separated from their owners and ferried far away, else be killed by the city.
I'm glad to see there are still some good doglovers who is doing there duty.Denver will pay for all the pitbulls they murdered.

i can't belive that the city would be that ignorant to think it's because of breeding... it's a wonderful thing that people are acually willing to do that much to help/ save thease wonderful dogs
By , at 10:50 AM, July 07, 2005
It is do sad how people decide that one breed is bad just because of a few dogs that happen to be in that breed. That is like saying that all white people are bad because a few of the are racist. I mean really. When is the insanity about pitbulls finally going to end?
By , at 11:40 AM, July 07, 2005
Pit bulls are not agressive as many people think. It's the owners who raise this breed in wrong way. I have seen few Pit Bulls that are very sweet natured. I am glad to hear that many people are helping in saving these souls. Somehow it seems that in this country government officials tend to take drastic actions without understanding the causes and possible other remedies. It really is tragic.
By , at 2:53 PM, July 07, 2005
First the law itself is not fair, second, instead of killing the captured Pit Bulls, they should be trained to stop crimes.

I have been raising pitbulls for 30 years. I have never been bitten by a pitbull, but have been bitten by other breeds. DON'T punish the breed punish the bad owners. I own 35 pitbulls and all my dogs are big baby's. Denver is run by a bunch of idiots.
By , at 1:55 PM, July 08, 2005
It's about time they did something about this problem. The unfortunate part is that the owners are to blame maybe we should try putting them to sleep instead!
By , at 2:03 PM, July 08, 2005
The video a few posts up says it all.
By , at 9:16 AM, July 09, 2005
this day has been coming for awhile. it won't be long before insurance companies begin forcing pit bull owners to insure their pets. non-pitbull owners just don't understand the loyalty of the breed. the dog will literally fight to the death for the approval of their owner. these dogs should be on a pedestal, not villanized.
let's face it, certain people are attracted to this particular pet and that's the real rap on the dog. if these same people owned chows, that's what denver would be euthanizing. there are other solutions to this problem, for one, registering to become a dog owner. that would keep these animals away from many unfit owners. if you a turn a pet over to the humane society then you lose your right to ever own another dog. however, it would not solve the black market problem with underground dog fights. why not stiffen the punishment for people participating in these events? i think prison is the appropriate atmosphere for these individuals.
i don't know about you, but my dog is part of my family. if someone came to take him away he would get the same treatment as someone trying to take a family member. stand up for your pet because no one else will.

What Is Wrong With The Kooks in Denver that initiated and passed that law. Crazy Kooks! Are they going to start segregation again too! Oh wow...what a bunck of idiots! UNBELIEVABLE! Why are some people SO stupid???!!!!
By , at 12:58 AM, July 21, 2005
i have 2 kids and i had my pitbulls before i ever had a kid, pitbulls are jsut like kids they will do anything for love and when i had kids my dogs took the kids in as brothers and sisters if you ask me pitbulls are loyal then most family they will never turn theyre back on you never try to hurt you just always be there to love you what more can you ask for i wish i could go to denver and show everyone there that thinks theyre tough for killing a dog that they are weak and sad when they go to hell for killing innocent animals maybe they will see theyre actions were way wrong
By , at 8:57 AM, July 21, 2005
This is an outrage! Pitbulls are the sweetest, most loving animals. This is a very sad and unforgivable action. I am in shock over the deaths of the innocent dogs. It is so unfair. Some people don't understand the demeanor of this fine breed of animal. I'm sorry people are so uneducated in this area. This discriminatory behavior needs to end.
By , at 12:11 PM, July 21, 2005
The dogs in quesion are not the problem... The problem is the super-predator humans who raise bad dogs, bad kids and lead lives that are less than remarkable. It is so sad that the people of Denver are caught in this malstrom of hysteria...I'm certain you have good dogs and I'm sorry for the bueraucrats that can't see beyond their noses.
By , at 8:56 PM, July 21, 2005
Ignorance, just plain stupitdity, are leading to these unjust and unhumane actions in Denver. Don't they realize they are committing acts to extinguish an entire breed. It isn't the dog but the owner who is responsible.
Why don't they push for a law to kill criminals who murder people, and child molesters? They are not suitable for rehabiilitation. Dogs are more suitable for rehab than humans! OPEN YOUR EYES DENVER!
By , at 2:30 PM, July 22, 2005
this is total bullshit. i'm glad there a way for these dogs to be taken out of denver, what the fuck is up with denver anyway, wake up people, killing one kind of dog is useless toward the situation. this is what happens when people dont know the truth. its seem like only pitbulls kill to these fucking idiots. the truth is out there just not in denver. i hope the lawyers and politicians along with the police all go straight to hell.
FUCK YOU DENVER
By , at 8:27 AM, July 23, 2005
I THINK THE POLICE SHOULD FIND THE KILLER OF JON BONNET RAMSEY INSTED OF ROUNDING UP PITBULLS THAT NEVER HURT ANYONE.... WAIT MAYBE IT WAS A PITBULL THAT KILLED HER...DENVER IS FUCKED
LONG LIVE THE AMERICAN PITBULL !!!!!1
By , at 8:31 AM, July 23, 2005
How about a profile of the typical denver city council politician, and a statute that euthanizes them, or anyone that looks like them
By , at 12:50 PM, July 23, 2005
how can denver's city officials possibly be so short-sighted and narrow minded??!!?? and who elects these people, anyway? has no one bothered to point out that the reason more pitbulls are being bred (for fighting, and by irresponsible breeders) is because of the fabulous press that they are being given? tell me, where is the bulk of the pit bull "problem"? in major metropolitan areas. why? the media - rap/rock musicians, movie stars, etc. - even your local news stations have been advertising the breed as a vicious protector, and glamourizing fighting the dogs. meanwhile, urban wannabe's all over the country who don't know a damn thing about responsible pet ownership, much less responsible breeding, are emulating their heroes, and doing what has become the "cool thing" - having, owning, breeding, fighting what would otherwise be possibly the best breed of family dog ever!! these dogs are consequently overbred, malnourished, neglected, and abused - all in an effort to make a quick buck. and these people can't understand WHY they attack???if i lived in these conditions, you damn sure better believe I'D be attacking someone!
if you take away the hype, you take away the problem! granted, that's not to say that rap (or rock) musicians are by any means irresponsible pit bull owners, but many of the people who are emulating them certainly are! if these artists truly care about the breed, they will start preaching AGAINST the exploitation of the dogs - make it the 'cool thing' to have pits as lovers, not fighters -or even to not have pit bulls at all!
and as for the politicians (and the press, too!) so deeply concerned with the REAL ISSUES. i can safely say that their cummulative actions in all sorts of legislation have resulted in the FAR more suffering than the actions of ALL dogs (not just pit bulls) EVER could. lets euthanize THEM instead!
my take on politics: ever hear the analogy if you have a handful of sand the harder you squeeze it, the less will remain when you release your grip, but if you hold the sand in an open hand, allowing it to 'breathe' you won't spill a grain? hmmm...
By , at 1:44 PM, July 23, 2005
I am so outraged that this is going on. It sickens me that Denver is so ignorant over the real truth. The people in Denver who have raised these dogs inappropriately need to be punished. Why aren't they the ones being euthanized? These dogs being killed are innocent victims of Denver's uneducated population and politicians. Stereotyping these dogs is like stereotyping a race of people because statistically they may have committed more crimes. Are we going to kill all of them off too? This whole issue disgusts me and reflects on the fact that americans, especially those in Denver, are so lazy that they choose what they think is the easy answer. Who cares what the correct one is as long as they don't have to exercise their mind for more than a second. The people in Denver who are allowing this to happen will meet there greatest judge one day and God will punish them for their crimes.
By , at 11:55 PM, July 23, 2005
A city that kills off a breed of dogs because it has attacked people are ignorant, why not do a survey to see what race, or sex commits more murder and as they put it humanely kill them, or put a needle in their on arm and see how humane it is. If some city or anybody else tries to take my dogs it will be a fight that I am willing to fight.
By , at 8:07 PM, July 24, 2005
What are people on this planet thinking. Why is this the dogs fault? So, if someone starts fighting Pugs,or Yorkies, oh wait Poodles. Is Denver going to put them all to sleep as well? I would hate to sound like someone who thinks that MY government is acting like a bad parent just taking the easy road because they don't want to take the time or spend the money to discipline the people who use pits as a weapons. I guarantee those same people would and will just go on to the next breed who shows the same characteristics as the pit. Loyalty, Strength, and Determination all wrapped up in a muscular build and big white teeth. There are so many people on this planet who are just evil and bad, who do terrible things that I wouldn't even wish to think about, and yet we don't kill them. How many states have men and women on death row for 2, 5, 20 years. In one week how many dogs will be put to death, for being loving, affectionate members of the family. How can you fault a dog for being a dog, probably the same people who fault you for being homeless, illiterate, black or a woman. The senseless death of a pet is supposed to be something humans try to prevent, not enforce. I am a lover of all animals, good and bad. It is a shame that on a daily basis I can not say that of my own species
By , at 9:55 PM, July 24, 2005
I am appalled that the citizens of Denver could ever allow such a cruel, sickening law to take effect! Shame on them! Judge each dog by its OWN merits, fairly and unbiasedly! If one of these Yahoos ever showed up at my house they had better worry about ME(and my bad temperment)not my APBT-then again she MAY try to lick them to death!!
By belleinexile, at 1:07 AM, July 25, 2005
i picked up patty pit bull as a starving abandoned pup. she is two years old,and lives with 6 to 7 other dogs(i foster), including a female neapolitan mastiff. i have never had a problem with dog aggression. she happily greets anyone at my door. if someone came for her she would greet them with a wagging tail. my mastiff on the other hand...
By , at 9:59 AM, July 27, 2005
I just wish people would have an open mind about the pit bulls. They are the most loving dogs I have ever owned. They play with my grandchildren and love them, the greet stranger wagging their tails, but you get owners who what to make them mean and destroy the reputation. I say destroy those who make them mean, not band the dogs their only pleasing their owners. Denver needs someone who will take the issue and investigate before making such a drastic ending to this beloved specie. Heck they even had a pit bull on the Little Rascals....

My heart goes out to all those who are suffering due to this unethical ban. I moved to SC from Dade County, FL so that I could own my 1st APBT. He is my best friend ever and there will never be another like him (I know I'm biased). My county briefly rumored about BSL a few months back. My friend and I where interviewed together with two of our (many) APBT's. We showed off obedience and fun tricks for the camera. It was the best 15 minutes of fame! Our community came together to voice our conscerns, it worked because the county counsel took the discussion off the agenda. They formed a new Animal Control Advisory Board, I repesent District 1. It is very important for APBT owners to maintain a level of integrety in the community at all times! People will undoubtedly bash the breed, but getting "huffy and puffy" about it will not do a thing but connect another negative stigma to the breed. Be proud of your APBT's and hybrids, show them off every time you can. Socialize them in your community and try to expose as many people to positive pit experiences. Don't worry about the people who critisize your dog, DO NOT argue with them, just let the go home to there hyper/unruley Labradors. Keep your head up, you are the owner of the best breed alive!

People in Texas hear you cry. I'm from Lubbock. I can not believe the inhuman cruelty of what is happening there.
By , at 8:00 PM, August 06, 2005
I am so upset that there are so many ignorant people yet in these United States. They put it all on a breed of the dog, yet any of us that own or have a love for dogs know that it's all in how you train the dog, what environment it is in, the love that it gets! Are they gonna ban those little ones that are more vicious than half the large dogs I've ever come across?! I have owned a variety of dogs in my life and all were good,Pits, Shepherds, etc. Then my parents owned a Black Lab that they got from the Humane Leauge that became a fear biter and would go after kids. I own two Pits now and Lord knows I'd do whatever it took to save them, like I would for my two human children. I wish you all luck who are stuck in such a horrible biased law! It should be about the DEED, not the BREED!!
By APBT_lover, at 8:30 AM, August 07, 2005
i heard about this story on abc nightly news. it makes me sick to my stomach. it is a holocost for dogs. i can't believe they are actually taking peoples pets and putting them to sleep!!!!! it is an outrage. how dare these people do such a horrible thing! these people have clearly crossed a line. they are murderers, there is no excuse. it is barbaric and inexecusable it feels like the dark ages. why have people in power not evolved? christine in portland oregon

By , at 8:21 PM, November 08, 2005
Denver is not the only city in America trying to get rid of these beautiful, family members. I am trying to fight the city of Florissant MO to not allow SBL. My dogs hardly ever go out side and to say they are dangerous. lol. They are the biggest chickens and babies I have ever seen. If they can do this in Denver, they can try to do it any where. We need to fight together.
By , at 7:36 AM, November 13, 2005
When are people going to wake up and realize that it is not the breed? It is the owners!! I have had the pleasure of fostering several Pit Bulls and they are the most sweet, loving, playful dogs. This so called Ban disgusts me. Which Breed is next? I love how the media will splatter a Pit Bull bite all over the front page but when another breed does it, noone ever hears about it.
By , at 7:16 AM, November 14, 2005
Its great that some people care.Ive owned many pitbulls, its not the breeds fault that it gets a bad rap.All dogs respond to the way they are raised. Good for all that help.
By , at 12:40 PM, November 26, 2005
"Communities that have banned specific breeds have discovered that it has not been the easy answer they thought it would be. Dangerous dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and breed bans just don't effectively address the issue." (Pooch Prejudice, 2005)
Although my husband and I are responsible pet owners, our pit bull was just taken by animal control and our court date is on January 23, 2006. "Sherman", is up to date on his vaccinations, he's socialized at the nearby dog park,he's gone through obedience training, and he's just a big ol' lap dog. But because we live in Denver, he's been banned, even though he hasn't shown any vicious tendencies, and he'll lick you to death.
I hope other dog-owners will perk up to this racial profiling. Who knows which dog breed will be next?
By , at 9:58 AM, December 17, 2005
I think that instead of banning pit-bulls, government should consider banning the people who turn these absolutely admirable dogs into monsters.
once again we are witnessing how ignorant and cowardly people
are.it's breaking my heart to realise that instead of looking into those dogs eyes and learn how to be loyal, brave and thankful, we are making our choice to kill.
AND I am happy there are still a lot of people who do not fear but love.

Hello Micheal Briant Ontario's minister of finance band all pitbulls, staffies and any dog that looked like a pit bull here in Ontario Canada. The same government who let Karla Holmoka serial killer out of jail to run the streets I d rather have a pitbull anyday.

My husband and I are truck drivers and we were in Denver for a weekend layover. We had a 7 week old pit bull pup weighing maybe 5 pds with us that we rescued 1 week before from someone who was starving her. As I was taking her out to go to restroom early on sunday morning a white van pulled up and a man with a badge said he had to take my dog. we questioned why and were told about the ban. we told we had no idea and that we would leavew the city right then with her. He said no and called police when we didnt comply. we had to let him take her and he said it would be around 500 dollars to get her back or in 5 days she would be euthanized. We was not standing for this and luckily called the rocky mountain pet rescue and they helped us get our dog back. We are now sueing the city for their actions.

FYI The story about the two pit bulls killing a lady in Middleburg.....ha I actually talked with the person that was related to the lady that got killed ...well they don't ever post the real story...so the lady actually fell and hit her head causing a clot and bleeding inside and out. So her dogs were licking her blood and just then the police and news showed up so all of sudden they blamed the pits...........THEY DESERVE A FAIR TRIAL ALSO ....GRRRRRR DON'T YOU HATE THE IDIOTS OUT IN THIS WORLD
