Thanks,For letting people know that ANY dog can attack.Being the owner of rotties and working for a rescue,I see all the horrable things people do to animals.I think it's unfair for two or three breeds to be labeled as the bad ones,When infact any dog can attack. And i will say that my rotties are very good dogs,Not killers.

Yes thanks for pointing this out!!When I see mothers w/children pull them away from meeting my APBT(sometimes even crossing the street!!)I want to cry! Ruby-Sue LOVES children! I've found in my own expirience that the tinier the dog-the more likely for unfriendly behavior. Unfortunately, most toy dog owners "pooh-pooh" away that their "babies" bites actually hurt...I run the risk of being sued,or having my dog put down if she were to even jump on someone!
Breed specific legislation is horrible! Fight against this! Your dogs' breed could be the next innocent victim of these hysterical people! Remember THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS-ONLY BAD DOG OWNERS!!!

When I see news like this about a German Shepherd, I have to wonder where that dog came from. That sort of aggressive behavior is completely out of character with the breed standard. Bad breeding practices have an enormous impact on a breed and it's image. Please encourage responsible breeding practices!

Thank you for this article. It's about time someone takes the attention away from pitbulls and recognizes it's an owner, not a breed problem.

oh shut up!!! people have every right to be afraid of rotties and german shepherds as they might with any other dogs. Some people are just afraid of dogs and dog owners have to respect that. The question you should be asking is why the person is crossing the street. Did you ever consider that they may have been bitten before???? - I lover dogs but I have to admit I would cross the street if i saw a pit bull or another large dog with a reputation. It is human nature. But i agree that bad breeding is sometimes the cause. All I ask is that Dog owners respect that some people are not dog people.

its about time someone noticed the german sheperd attacks. i've had dobermans and bull masitffs all my life and get nothing but abuse for it, people even skream and hit the dogs with sticks because they are "the devil dogs". the police use sheperds for attack dogs because of their natural aggression.

I love german shepherds

Please educate yourselves! German Shepards are rated as the 3rd smartest dog in the world, and police use them for this reason, and also because of control! This attack is totally unusual. Any dog can attack. Just ask my Toy Fox Terriers!

Thats a bunch of bull a dog is not meant to be locked up, a dog is a free spirit just like you and I and needs to be out and about, dogs aren't meant to be locked up in prison type deals or tethered, leaving dogs like this will only make them more aggressive, and lousy barkers! I'm against people who do that. There's a German Shepherd locked up in a 5' by 10' foot dog kennel, I've never seen the poor thing out of it. It's a beautiful dog, now after 4 years is probably ruined. Every time I walk by with my dogs, I see him barking madly and running around in circles, like mad. It sure is a shame to see such a good dog go to waste, the only cure for him would probably be a new owner and Cesar Millan to socialize him. I think people like that should try and spend four years locked up in a kennel and see how they like it! The poor dog just sits there and watches his life rolling away from him slowly as he gets older day, by day, watching other dogs and their owners walk by on a nice afternoon walk having a good time, and the poor dog is missing his life, living in a kennel.

Having lived with a dozen GSD's over the last 45 years(you don't ever actually "own" a German Shepherd dog)I can attest to any animals unexpected reaction to a particular situation. Imagine my suprise when just after telling some friends of mine whose 3 year old daughter was playing with my totally docile 6 year old female that I had raised from birth snapped at the little girl. What I think happened was she accidently put an elbow in the dogs rip cage while getting to her feet to follow us all on a walk. You can never be too careful with any dog around young children. I was bitten in the face when I was 5 by a Collie. My daughter has three of them and they all are great dogs. What would our lives be without our favorite dogs? boring, boring, boring.
