Don't Teach Your Dog to Dial 911

Monday, August 08, 2005

A woman in Lake Parsippany, New Jersey claims she successfully taught her dog to dial "911" in the event of an emergency. It took several attempts, but she finally prevailed.

But there was a problem. Three police cars showed up at her home, after they received numerous "911" calls from her telephone.

  • it could be that the dog dosen't realy know what an emergancy is and that just knows if it dials 911 it will be rewarded

  • Training no doubt is very important in this issue but so would informing the 911 dispatcher of the dog's training as well the disabilities this person has so they can be prepared when the next 911 call is received.
The reason I believe a dog would still be of use is due to myself having a dog aiding my disability of epilepsy. There's further information on an AOL homepage by MirageSvcDog
