Dogs Need Pedicures Too

Long dog clawsAn article published in the Hollister Free Lance newspaper discusses the importance of keeping your dog's claws trimmed.

Dogs that live a sedentary life indoors run into the problem of their claws growing too long...
Without routine care, their nails may grow so long that they deflect their toes upward and off to one side. These poor dogs can't walk normally because their feet are pushed way out of position. Imagine if something was holding one or more of your toes over to the side all the time. You can bet it would hurt - a lot.
Regular trips to the groomer can prevent that.

  • I love my Lab, I really do, but he goes for long walks on pavement and his nails still grow like crazy. I take him to Petco and they always say that his nails don't need trimming, but I still hear that taptap on my floor. I try trim them on my one and Diesel hates having his paws touched and pulls away. Not a good time.

  • I trim my dog's nails once a month, but I only do one paw per day. That way she doesn't get too stressed.

  • hehe, I just want to get it over and done with, especially if we go to Petco. Funny enough, after we get his nails done, he knows that he can pick out any treat in the store - usually a pig ear.

  • Heidi gets her nails trimmed once a month when she goes to the vet for her heartworm meds. The vet is very quick and professional and she never seems to mind going. I bought the nail trimmers, but my mini weenie is a hand full.
