The people didn't know the puppies were from puppy mills. That's why they are suing. There may be several animals up for adoption in shelters but some people don't see that. Some people want a purebred dog in which they can predict how they might act or what size they will be. Many shelter puppies are of undisputable origin and may become much larger than the person would like in a dog. There are excellent reasons to adopt shelter animals but I discourage adopting puppies if you want a certain size.
I kind of wonder how long this person has been in the business and how many people have bought from him. I would think people are smarter than buying puppies from someone who calls himself such a name. Reputable breeders use their real name, not fake ones.

WIC is one of MANY. If you can't go to the home and view the pups, you're at risk of being misrepresented. And heaven forbit, stay out of the pet stores!

keep up the good work. These people make me sick. What is HSUS doing about making laws stricter concerning breeders? Really that would solve some problems. No more puppy mills would make it hard for people like this to operate.

Unfortunately, Jim Anderson of Wizard of Claws, is only one of many.
I protested outside his store today. It's a matter of education. Many people don't know that puppies in pet stores come from puppymills. THERE IS NO REPUTABLE BREEDER WHO WOULD SELL TO A PET STORE!
Frankly, I don't believe in breeding any dogs due to the enormity of the problem of unwanted dogs in the U.S.
There shouldn't be any puppies for sale until the dogs and puppies in shelters and with rescue groups all have homes.
Purebreds - what does that mean? In reality, it means that you have a dog with serious genetic problems due to inappropriate breeding by puppymills - people who are in it only for the money.
Thank heavens the HSUS has filed suit. Now other pet stores should answer the question, "Where do these puppies come from?" and give an honest answer.

I agreed with you until the purebred thing. Although there are many dogs who should receive homes but are bested by purebred dogs is because you can actually assume what this dog will turn out like. Purchasing a mixed breed puppy from a shelter is almost like purchasing a purebred one from a pet store. You have no idea where this dog is from, you have no idea how big he/she will get, you don't know if he/she has any genetic or already existing problems, and you can't tell how he/she will act in the future. Even getting an older mixed breed from the shelter can result in problems that existed but no one knew about (ex. biting, urinating on carpet, attacking/chewing shoes, etc.). By purchasing from a reputable breeder, you can accurately guess what will occur in the puppy and have someone to go back to incase something goes wrong.
Purebred breeders are also looking to decrease genetic problems anyways. That's why questions exist, to decrease the amount of genetic trouble the dog should have. Screening is done to weed out genetic problems and to keep less productive dogs from the lineage.
Also, if you need a dog for a specific function such as hunting or herding, it's easier to just pick a puppy from a breeder who breeds those kind of dogs than it is to spend days trying to find one at a shelter.
Anyways, the problem with overcrowding in shelters is the result of stupid people not spaying and neutering their pets if they are not going to use them for breeding. Then the animals have to pay for it. It isn't fair but life generally isn't.
I do agree that shelter animals need love as well. Unfortunately, many shelter animals are "pit bulls" and people dislike/loathe them. That's not going to change unless some sort of education comes into play. Then we reach an entirely different topic.

These people buy their dogs off the internet from breeders posting dogs for sale. They buy dogs that local and state athorities have cleard the breeders to sale. You can find all their web pages on the net. You and I can buy the dogs just the same they can.
I just can't figure out why you would go after the person who's selling the dogs from state approved breeders. If you are going to burn somebody...burn the puppy mills.
Also, if this Wizard of Claws is so bad why do so many buy dogs from them? Shouldn't we go after the people who buy dogs from Wizard of Claws or any other pet store also?
I just think the barrel of the gun is pointed at the wrong people.

The people are suing WOC for saying the dogs were from real breeders but, in fact, they weren't. Once the people realized this, they were given false advertisement and information. I don't know why anyone would buy puppies from a pet store to begin with, but if you do and the seller lies about where the puppies come from, you have a good lawsuit. It's not so much the fact that the people have puppy mill animals, it's that WOC lied to them about their puppies origin.

95% of the public do not know that pet stores get puppies from puppy mills. They think they are getting puppies that were born on 10 acre farms and are cuddled by humans, like in the dog food commercials on tv. I have done dog rescue for 8 years and am still amazed at how many people are not aware of puppy mills. Much of the public also thinks that mix breeds are inferior, and that dogs from shelters are inferior. Mix breeds and shelter dogs are WONDERFUL, as are pure-bred dogs from responsible show breeders. FYI, pet stores pay less than $100 for each puppy from a puppy mill, but sell them for $700 and up! They are making a huge profit!
