PupGear Corporation LLC, which makes marine and travel related pet products, announced their newest addition to their line of products for dogs, the Pup-Head Portable Dog Potty.
We ordered a puphead about 3 months ago. it really is a great product. Our dog just walked over sniffed squated and peed.

We bought a Pup-head at the Atlantic City Boat Show last September. We use it on our Boat and in our New York Apartment. Our Boston Terror loves it and its easy to clean and take with us.The price was half than other products we saw and its made with quality products.

Question regarding the Pup Head with K-9 grass...if you don't want to deal with urine sloshing around in the bottom (I do not intend to wait days and days on end to clean it out so that a lot of urine HAS collected), can you use a potty pad under the grate? It seems that even with a small amount of urine, this would be much easier for clean up then to have liquid urine just floating around in the bottom of the tray...
Thanks!

My toy poodle loves her puphead. She went on it right away. After one of my friends saw how well it worked he bought one for his black lab. He said the same thing, His dog took to it right away. I haven't had to use anything to soak up the urine since my dog is so small. My friend with the lab said he lined the bottom of his tray with old newspaper or sometimes would use paper towels for extra absorbency. I am sure pads would work also if you want to spend the extra money.
I am just so glad I have the puphead. It has given me so much peace of mind knowing my little Molly isn't sitting home with her legs crossed waiting for me to take her potty.

People! What about that word which makes most dogs really happy...WALK??? I mean come on! Of course when on a boat or something similar this works but what has happened to our lazy society when apt and condo owners are ordering this?
By , at 5:51 AM, March 20, 2006
The concept is no different than the human toilet. You and your dog still need EXERCISE! The concept does allow the dog convenience when needed. There should be no substitute for WALKS, either human or dog. Too many humans think taking their dog out to pee means it got a walk.. and that's wrong.
By , at 6:11 AM, March 24, 2006
My idiot cousin bought one of these things. Dog used it at first apparently, then got confused eventually and starting pissing on the carpet.
They had to replace all the carpets in the house, what morons!
By , at 10:54 PM, May 24, 2006
We had the same problem. We found, the turf needs to be cleaned regularly. If not, the dog will go elsewhere. Not the dogs fault, it was our fault.
By , at 7:22 AM, May 28, 2006
Quite honestly, this heat being thrown about people being "lazy" is too generalized. Yeah, some people are going to be cruel and substitute such products for walks, but for the rest of us who love our dogs yet have to work say, 9 to 5 jobs and can't come home during lunch to take them out could use a break like this.
Not everyone on this planet has the luxury of working from home, owning a home w/a yard, or just not working at all. If you have the means to provide a healthy environment for your dog...even if that involves some fake grass during the day...then you can have a dog.

I need a unit like this for my condo's balcony. My problem with a petapotty right now is that it doesn't drain sufficiently and is really smelly. I don't have a hose so it's difficult to clean frequently.
Is there a product using K9 grass that drains out to one corner? If there's a drainage tube or a hole at that corner, I could use a pitcher of water to flush the urine into a small grate on the balcony. Any suggestions?

My Chihuahua gets a 40 minute walk & run mornings an evenings, so we are not lazy. She loves having the freedom to use the Pup-Head whenever she wants, usually in the middle of the night! It is also great when it is too hot (it's been 100 degrees here lately), too cold, or too rainy (she hates thunder).
An answer for dzdigits question, this Pup-head is perfecly sized to line the bottom with a potty pad, that's what we do!
I highly recommend this product, we love it!

How is this product compared to just trays? Is it harder to clean? I live in apartment and not have a hose to clean it.
By , at 6:38 PM, August 09, 2006
we live in a condo...we line the bottom of the tray with a pad, then just rinse the tray and grass in the bath or shower once a week. I haven't actually cleaned the tray yet, because the potty collects on the pad.
The manufacturer cautions not to use harsh detergents until the dog is very accustomed to using the grass, so you will not kill the special "scent" that encourages dogs to use the grass. Good Luck...we love it.
By , at 6:07 PM, August 15, 2006
Ooops...I should of said I wash the grass and the grid once a week in the tub.....not the tray.

Anyone have a medium dog (50lbs) that puphead is working well for? I am also interested in the Pet Loo.. any feedback on Pet Loo?

I Bought a Pup--Head from a retailer in San Diego, he guaranteed the product to work, so I bought it. After I got home, I took it out of the box and plastic and left the room for a second to get my eye glasses to read the instructions. I walked back into the patio room just in time to see one dog and then another using it. I have to say I was impressed. I ordered a spare k9 grass mat so have one to put down while; I wait for the grass to dry after washing. I tossed the clean one into the dryer on air dry for about 10 minutes and it’s ready to use again. I put kitty litter in the bottom of the pan to absorb the liquid and it works great. This really is a nice product. I am giving it as a Xmas gift to my daughter for her new puppy.

Whomever wrote that condo owners who use the Pup-Head are "lazy" is clearly someone who has been sheltered from the realities of city living. I'm an urban, condo-dwelling dog owner who DOES take her dog out for long walks - twice daily! However, when nature calls him in the middle of the night, to walk down the alley behind our building where he relieves himself is not only dangerous, it's just plain stupid. (my weiner dog is 11 pounds soaking wet and wasn't exactly bought for personal protection). Who WOULDN'T choose having a square of synthetic grass just outside the front door over putting themselves in jeopardy of being raped or shot? It's not "lazy"...it's common sense!

I am not 'lazy'. I am going through college, and sometimes I'm gone for up to six hours during the day. I don't have a yard or even a balcony, nor do I have a bunch of money to send my dog to daycare while I'm gone. (approx. $475 a month)
The puphead is a wonderful solution that allows him to roam the apartment while I'm gone during the day instead of sitting in his crate barking because he's bored.
By , at 10:00 PM, January 19, 2007
My dog won't use the puphead. I've tried everything from putting a sample of urine and stool on the K-9 grass to cutting real grass and putting it on the K-9 grass. The dog is insistent on using real grass.

I adore my dog.. and I adore my boat (..and he enjoys going boating for the weekend too). I DON'T enjoy crawling out of bed at 5:30am in midwinter to get dressed and having to take him to shore in the rain for a wee!!! I live in Australia, and the Pup-Head isn't available here.. so I have just ordered on from USA. *** I HOPE & PRAY THAT IT WORKS AND THAT HE USES IT!! ***

We have ordered Pup-Head and will be using it to train our new Boston puppy who'll be coming home in a few weeks.
We've been wondering if he'll be able to go on real grass outdoors when he's at the point of relieveing himself less once he's a little older.
If he's trained using the Pup-Head when he first get's home, is it possible to have him go on both the Pup-Head and real grass outside interchangably?
I live 3 mins from my office and will be able to take him out a couple times during the day. The reason we're getting Pup-Head is because we live in a highrise building (25 floors up) and it can take a few minutes to get down in the elevator sometimes - which won't work with a 9 week old pup.
I would like him to eventually go outside most of the time when I take him out, and use the Pup-Head just some of the time for convenience (late nights, weather, travelling, etc). Any advice on this would be much appreciated, as well as any tips on house training with this product.
Thanks.

to "boston puppy"
Yes, you can use the pup-head and outside both....that's what we do. I have one that prefers the pup-head, because she loves the treats and celebration (she will use the pup head after a walk if she wants a treat!)...but the pup-head/outside, it doesn't really matter to them.
It is wonderful during the night, or during a storm!!! The girls get up to go potty, and come back to bed, and I often don't even wake up. And it allows us to take our morning walk AFTER my capuccino!
The pup-head people have been lovely to deal with too...
We recently traveled to a "pet friendy" hotel, I brought our spare Pup-head, and the girls used it in the hotel room with no problem! Disposed the used potty pads that had lined it and wrapped it in a thick garbage bag in the trunk to bring it home..
It is the best "pet product investment" that i have made.

to "boston puppy"-
I forgot to add....
train just like you would for outside....crate, LEASH and walk to pup-head (in house or wherever), treat for "good potty" and celebrate for 15 seconds, give 30 minutes freedom for going good potty than return to crate or clip leash to your beltloop so you can watch like a hawk! Return to crate if they do not potty on the pup head....If they are leashed to you....return them to the puphead every once in a while...
It is basically identical to training outside, but you leash and walk to the pup-head.

Help! I'm a teacher with a male 30lb schnauzer. I walk my pooch 3 times daily, but if I get stuck one day I need a pet potty for my condo. Does anyone know if this potty is for medium sized dogs??

Hi! I´m living in Denmark and would LOVE to buy one of those...but where can I find it? In the most sites they only sells it to people around the U.S... / Mirjam in Copenhagen

The cost of the Pup-Head is now $149

I have a puppy who is being trained to go outside on the grass, but in a few months, I will have to be gone for several hours during the day and unable to take him out. Do you guys think he will adjust quickly to puphead and still be able to pee outside? I don't want him to regress his potty training.
By Leibeans, at 7:38 PM, August 25, 2007
Has someone answered the questions about medium sized dogs yet? I'm wondering about the same thing... My dog is 50lb. We walk him 2+ hours a day but would like to give him "freedom of potty" during the day when we're gone for 10 hours.

I have had a pup head for 1 month and my 4 month old trained well to it but has also destroyed the grass by the little bit of digging my dog does. Did I mention she is 2 lbs! The Pup Head does not use K9 grass. K9 grass can be ordered by itself and put into a shoe or boot tray with newspaper to absorb the urine for alot cheaper that pup head. Pup head does not guarantee their grass and their customer service is awful.

Target sells these Arm & Hammer Adult Dog Floor Protection Pads (http://www.armhammerpets.com/DogProducts/products.asp) that fit really well under the Pup Head screen. Sometimes we take the grass pad to the coin-op car wash and hang it on the floor mat clips on the wall and spray it off. That way you don't get a bunch of pee in your tub if you live in an apartment.

I have owned my puphead potty for about a year and am amazed at how quickly my pug learned to use it (the minute I pulled it out of the box and put it on the floor). We also take it with us when we travel and it's great how she always goes to it. I don't agree with above comments that owners are lazy if they buy it--I also walk my dog frequently. However, I am at work 8-10 hours a day so this is a perfect solution for my dog so she won't be expected to "hold it" for that long. It's either pee on the puphead or pee on the carpets--which she hasn't done since we bought the puphead. I keep mine in my bathroom. That way I can just pick up the poo and pour out the pee right into the toilet. Then I purchased a high-power sprayer that hooks up to my shower and I spray it down (into the toilet). Then of course, I clean the bathroom. I do this daily and it takes less than 10 mins to do. A minor inconvenience to having to replace carpet. Now if they would just invent a puphead that would flush itself--that would be awesome! Thanks for making such a great product!

I am having the hardest time potty training my dog he is 15lbs cocapoo?? He will pee on the wee wee pads but will poop else where !! I walk him every day but he rarely pee's or poops outside?? I was hoping the pup head will help? Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem if so what can i do ??
By ukeka, at 5:00 AM, December 19, 2007
The comment about people being lazy really irritates me. First off, has it ever dawned on you that people might have issues with weather? When we first bought our mini dachshund puppt it POURED rain for 2 days straight, and she would have been drowning outside, literally, if it weren't for her pee pad. Secondly, we have many occasions with weather like that, or when it's freezing outside, and it makes it impossible for her to potty, so the pad comes in handy, and she knows exactly what to do. That's not to say she doesn't get a 30 minute walk each day and a watch on her intake of food. Plus, certain breeds are stubborn (like the wienie dog), so this just makes life easier for everyone involved (including her.)

We have been selling this product for years and hear nothing but rave reviews from our customers. It's so popular in fact that Pup-Head has recently released a larger sized mat, throw away tray liners, and even "grass by the foot" for custom applications.
It's an excellent tool for potty training your dog and incredibly useful while traveling. When visiting other peoples homes it can make or break your visit. =)

I just received my Pup Head. I pray it works. Are there any specific things I should know when training my puppy to go on it?
By , at 1:33 PM, March 19, 2008
We received our pup-head potty about a week ago and it is a nice product but our dogs won't use it. We take them out often but this was hopefully something they could use during the day while we're at work. They pee next to it but not on it and I can tell they see it as carpet. The grass isn't realistic enough for them. Oh well, hopefully they will use it when it rains??
By , at 12:38 PM, March 27, 2008
I'm having the same problem. My old dog and my newly acquired 5-month old puppy will NOT use this. I purchased from someone who said he bought it and never used it. Is it possible the scent was destroyed? I have sprayed purchased "scent" onto it but still no help. Anything I can do???
By , at 8:45 PM, April 20, 2008
If your dog does not naturally take to the scent, you need to train a dog to use it just like you would housebreak. either crate, or attach the leash to your belt, or confine in a small area with just a bed and the puphead. we chose the latter. I just blocked off an area, and gave treats and praise for "good potty". And GRADUALLY gave more freedom. Consult a housebreaking book, if you need more tips, just remember to bring to the puphead instead of the grass.
BTW-for those asking. It may work for medium dogs if they have good aim. I have three dogs using one puphead, 7 lb., 3 lb, and 4 lb., but their poos are smaller.
Another benefit, poos flushed and sent to waste treatment is much better for the enviroment than in a plastic bag in a landfill.
By , at 11:12 PM, April 20, 2008
the scent will be removed if he washed with detergent. they suggest just rinsing with clean water until your dog is used to using the puphead.
Again, just train as mentioned above...

My two 5 month old lhasa apsos absolutely will not use the puphead. They will lay on it, sniff and roll around on it, and eventually started to tear it apart, but simply did not want to step onto it and take care of business. As puppies, they were trained to paper. So the Pup Gear folks said to put some newspaper on the turf, but that didn't help. Per their policy, Pup Gear won't refund my money because the pups have damaged the turf. So this was an expensive chew toy for my dogs.

Hi, I just wanted to say I have had a pup-head for about 4 months now. I have two teeny tiny Chihuahua's my little female hated wee pads and was having accidents all the time, as soon as I pulled the pup-head out of the box and put it on the floor she was trained IMMEDIATELY!! However my little guy did not like the grass feel on his feet, it took him a week or so to adjust. WE ALL LOVE IT. It is much better to look at than a wee pad:-) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++++
