A company called M4 Products, LLC is marketing a product called Puphut, a canopy that fits onto the bed of pickup trucks.
Takes all the fun out of it! Now the dog can't hang over the edge and take in the fresh-air! I do like the shade factor, but a responsible owner should always park in shade anyways! Plus, everyone I know has a bed lid of some sort. But good luck anyway.

Sure, in some peoples' minds it takes all the fun out of it, but they can't ask their pets if they understand the risks involved with riding back there. They had to make a law in parts of Texas that made it illegal for humans to ride in the back of pickups on major roadways due to the number of deaths associated with high speed travel (over the speed limit) and lack of safety restraints. Obviously some humans don't have the common sense to eliminate dangers in their lives, who's going to help people's pets?
Dogs can stick their heads out of windows and still feel the wind in their fur! Just makes sense.

There should be a law against dogs riding in the back of a pickup truck. People who think dogs actually are having fun in the back are insane. They should ride in the back and let someone else drive the truck and see how it feels when the temperature is high (or very low for that matter, in winter) besides sudden breaking can cause death of animals riding in the back. I have seen poor dogs in the back of a truck in NM, where outside temperature is almost zero degrees and in minus with wind. The owners of such pickup trucks whould be charged with animal abuse...

I agree sunil. Of course basic common sense and overall responcibility are becoming extinct. My dogs used to love to ride in the back of my truck (when I was young I drove a truck) but I understood excessive heat, cold etc. The only thing I did wrong was they were not secured. Once, one did fall out at low speed (he was fine thankfully) after that I secured them, those were great days and special times. Maybe the Dog Whisperer (Cesar Millan) can help people, much like Dr. Phil has, with, just, basic, common, sense.

What would happen to the dog in the event of an accident - most likely he'd be thrown from the truck either to be injured or run loose in the traffic. And some folks might need to be reminded that accidents are by definition - unexpected.
