Happy Tail Ale is a new non-alcoholic beer for dogs recently launched in the USA.
This is awesome... my dog loves beer too. She's a beer thief. But the fact that they made beer special for dogs is kind of overboard. Still a neat idea even though it is non alcoholic.

My dog loves it! Fun to serve it to him when we have people over...you should see the looks on their faces until I tell them what it is!

You have to wonder if this is good for a dog. Dogs are carnivores, body consumers. They eat animals. Just because a dog likes something doesn't mean it is good for them. Raisins and grapes can kill a dog. Same with chocolate. Same with anti-freeze. Who says this stuff is good for your dog? And what about carbonation? Would a carbonated drink contribute to the risk of bloat and torsion? I'd stay away from this.

Sam, there's no carbonation in this, read the label. No hops, either, which can cause seizures in dogs. It's just a fun treat!

I'd have to agree with Sam, and this really is over board, and stupid. I would also stay away from this, and have it tested and everything by a veterinarian like me.

I think is a stupid and very dangerous idea. I wouldn't this to my dog even if my vet said it was ok. Lame idea!

Not only that, but some idiot will think that it is ok to give a dog real beer based on this product. Beer is not good for a dog! People will just say beer for dogs, I’ll just give them a bottle of my Bud, no need to buy a “special” beer for dogs. Such people won’t take the time to find out that this dog beer is nonalcoholic and not carbonated, .i.e. they will think any beer ok to give to dogs. This product perpetuates this idea and I don’t like it. Seems like the creators are more interested in making a buck then the well being of these animals.

Wow, there's a lot of mean-spirited comments! My name is Jamie, and I'm the creator of Happy Tail Ale, beer for dogs. I'd like to clear up a couple of misconceptions: 1) Every ingredient in this product is human grade and very safe. 2) This product has been tested and approved by five veterinarians. 3) There is NO carbonation, NO hops, NOTHING in it that could harm a dog. 4) Yes, I know that raisins and grapes can kill a dog. There are none in this product, and that's also what I tell people when they ask me to create a wine for dogs! 5) Yes, it's overboard, but it's also fun! It's a TREAT for dogs, not a regular food. It's something to have fun with! 6) Lastly, I really resent your saying we just want to make a buck and aren't interested in the well-being of dogs. Actually, this product was thought of for that very reason! My dog was always trying to get at our 'people' beers, knocking them over when we weren't looking, etc. So, we came up with something that's healthy for dogs, without any of the bad things 'real' beer has! I'm actually trying to educate people that real beer is BAD for dogs, and this is a fun alternative!
Thanks for listening. I'm only trying to do something fun and positive.

Hi Kodi and your owner,
Just wanted to leave a little *positive* feedback..!
I also was stunned that someone would comment the creators seem interested only in "making a buck"! I hate to say it but being such a novelty purchase and for such a niche market, I can't imagine this was developed with the purpose of being a huge moneymaking venture... rather, it seems very clear that Happy Tail Ale was the idea of a pet lover and not some money-hungry corporation.
I personally think this is a great product, especially as the friend of an adorable dog who also loves to beg for human beer when it's around. Besides, I know there are hundreds of other dog treats on the market that cater to human food concepts rather than doggy ones (do you really think the dog cares whether his biscuit is bone-shaped, or that he can make the distinction between "beef pot pie" and "juicy t-bone" beef flavored treats?)
What makes this one different? It's just a dog-friendly version of something humans consume and dogs beg for. And a cute one at that!

yea forget what these people say. they are just hating on your product. thats how the game works. its just like non alcoholic drinks that these mean spirited pansies know all about cause thats what they drink. HAHAHA! Lighten up people. HELL! I might just buy some to drink for my self to get some vitamin E!!!!

Dogs are omnivores, not carnivores.
By , at 10:00 PM, August 25, 2007
I actually think it i a good idea it looks cool too!

Technically, they ARE carnivores as they belong to the Mammalian order Carnivora... nevertheless their eating habits do fall under the omnivore category, yes.

Kind of makes you wonder about "Sam the dog trainer" when he doesn't know that dogs are omnivores. Or maybe I should tell my dog he's not supposed to like vegetables. DUH!

Wonder what Cesar Milan would think? Would be interesting to get his opinion. Right Sam?
By , at 2:01 PM, March 23, 2008
why is carbonation bad for dogs... or is it?
By , at 10:16 AM, April 08, 2008
Why have they stopped making the Happy Tail Ale. I just found out about it and they have stopped making the treat for the dogs.

There is a lot of confusion about a species appropriate diet for dogs. The "why" is that we have crossed the line between science and prolific industry propaganda. Since the 1950s vast sums of money have been poured into shaping public perception because the profits are enormous. Not to mention that “we the people” have a tendency towards anthropomorphism, and convenience is a driving force.
