Bird's Dropping Chicken Bones in Backyards

Monday, November 06, 2006

gracklesAn interesting story appears in the Arizona Republic today, about some grackles (a type of black bird) who pluck out half-eaten chicken-wings from trash bins, and drop the bones in people's backyards.

The abandoned bones then get eaten by dogs who go on to suffer gastrointestinal problems.
For Alan Southergill, whose yard backs up to the trash bin and a Barro's Pizza restaurant, the bones have meant big vet bills to treat his aging dog's gastrointestinal problems.
The owner of Barro's Pizza says it's difficult to keep the lid on the trashbin closed because other businesses in the strip mall use it too.
