Cat Gives Birth to Dogs

The Daily Mail, a UK-based newspaper, ran a story about a cat who supposedly gave birth to puppies...

This is Mimi, the first cat to give birth to puppies, her owner claims.

Brazilian Cassia Aparecida de Souza, 18, says three of the cat's six offspring, which were born three months after Mimi mated with a neighbour's dog, have canine traits.

A geneticist from the Passo Fundo University plans to take blood samples from the animals to verify the claim.
So does this mean these dogs will use the litter box?

  • my guess is that the cat got out mated with another cat and found some abandoned puppies whick it carried home with its kittens. Cats and dogs are incapable of any productive mating, although some have tried.

  • Genetically this wouldn't be possible for a cat and dog to have offspring together. However, if the cat was a seragent mother for the puppy's maybe (but this wouldn't happen naturally in nature). Then the cat could have given birth to the puppies, just not be a biological parent of them.

  • persoonally i think it could be a possiblitly because near my house in ottawa i heard they found a frog with 5 legs and all of the animals and other species are becoming the unusual. why would cats have an exeption to being perfect and not having an ability to have such thing happen to them? for example i didnt know grass hoppers could fly since the last 5 years change over time. think about it. the pollutants in the world make this cat seem normal to me.

  • A cat giving birth to dogs is impossible... each species has a certain number of chromosomes, and dogs and cats have two different numbers. I suppose there is a very slim chance of a cat with the same number as dogs, but that would be one in a million, and it just so happens that that one cat mates with a dog? Improbable.

  • that's a very interesting cat. the face's looked almost alike the done thing I'm not sure about even my cat doesn't like dogs very much. my cat even my cat had five kittens long ago. I need more proof like DNA to see if they match with the pollution it might happen.go without proof.no one knows for sure.

  • well.
    i suppose it COULD happen, if the puppies were disabled becoz if you have the wrong number of chromosomes, you come out disabled.
    like a down syndrom baby, has an extra allele on the 21st chromosome or something, soo maybe if something in there was retarded and had the wrong number.
    buh i highly doubt it, i think its utter bullshit.

  • ok so there was once a report that a man used to rape his horses. apparently one horse got pregnant. the baby was stillborn obviously, but this can show u that anything can happen. btw the baby human/foal had a body of a horse some parts human. completely abnormal.

  • i think it could very well be possible!!! and for all of you say cats hate dogs thats not always true! my cat was really close with my dogs! they both gave birth around the same time but a few days later my dog was hit by a car and my cat took over as mother!! as for the cat giving birth to dogs thers no telling these days between pollution and mutation there are many things possible! but i think a dna test would be best!!!

    dont be afraid to use your imagination!! anything is possible!!
