Reformulated Greenies Launched Today

Wednesday, November 01, 2006

New GreeniesS&M NuTec, makers of Greenies, announced today the official launch of their new reformulated Greenies. The new Greenies have actually found their way onto store shelves in the past several weeks.

The company says the new formula is more easily digestible, claiming a "disgestibility rate" of 95.7% as compared to 80-85% digestibility of typical dry dog food (how do they measure digestibility anyways?). The new formula also includes a blend of high-quality proteins, vitamins and minerals, is softer so that dog teeth will sink in making them more cleaner.

With the official launch, the company is rolling out a national educational and advocacy initiative called "Chews to Care". It's centered around a new website (http://www.chewstocare.com) where dog owners can sign up to receive a complimentary doggie dental care package which includes...

  • $20 rebate on a dental cleaning at a participating local veterinarian (requires proof of visit and proper paperwork; open to the first 10,000 eligible households)

  • Free sample of a new Greenies dental chew

  • Free six-month email reminder to make a veterinarian appointment

  • Free tell-a-friend e-card to spread the word and give free offers to friends and family.
Seems kinda peculiar that S&M NuTec is offering a discounted dental cleaning, since the reformulated Greenies are supposed to do a better job of cleaning your dog's teeth.

  • PROBLEM WITH NEW GREENIES FORMULA, AND WITH DOG.COM! I have been a loyal Greenies customer for about two years, starting with the old formula. Not only did my dog hesitate when I gave her the new formula for the first time, but now I can only give Greenies two stars because the new formula is defective ... it goes moldy! I have had this happen with several different bags of the new formula Greenies. Well before their expiration date, you'll start to find tiny, white, fuzzy mold spots all over the chews. I've even seen this in the bags of Greenies in pet stores. I keep them in a cool dry place but it doesn't help. So I called dog.com for a refund or exchange or store credit, but DOG.COM DOES NOT STAND BY ITS PRODUCTS! My dog loves Greenies but she does sometimes get a chunk stuck in the side of her teeth and needs help getting it out. Factoring in all of these problems, I am sincerely disappointed. I want Greenies to go back to the old formula!!!
