Nazi Saluting Dog Looks for New Owner

Friday, December 21, 2007

Nazi saluting dogIn Germany, a dog named "Adolph" is now searching for a new owner, after his previous owner was sent to jail for teaching him how to salute like a Nazi.

The dog's owner, Roland T, a Nazi sympathizer, was ordered to cease his public expression of Nazi sympathism, but the man, who apparently suffers from brain damage due to an accident, has not done so. So now he's in jail.

The Daily Mail, a UK-based newspaper reports that if Adolph's new owners don't train him to forget the offensive trick, Adolph may end up being put down...
But new owners could land in the same fate if the German Sheppard crossbreed continues to raise his paw to hail his namesake, dictator Adolf Hitler.

So the nine-year-old dog – now renamed Adi – will have to learn a new trick – and quick - if he is to avoid more trouble from the country's ardently anti-fascist authorities.
Opinion

I guess it just goes to show that Germany is still a fascist state, if you can't be free to express your political beliefs, regardless of how perverse they might be.

If Roland T truly is brain damaged from an accident then this is just a sad, SAD story all around. Here's a man who has no other companion than his faithful dog, and being punished for expressing his beliefs, and not totally understanding what the State wants from him.

And now a dog that may ultimately face death because he too doesn't understand what the State wants from him.

  • The owner is a Nazi and Nazis belong in jail, Nazis want to kill people, they killed over 50 million. The US keeps Islamic militants in prisons for their ideas alone as well as those belonging to other terror groups. The Nazis are the greatest terror organization the world has ever know.
The dog is innocent of course and should not be put down.

  • Art - Did you miss the part about the guy apparently being brain damaged?

As for this whole issue, if he thinks he's a Nazi let him pretend to be a Nazi. They're long gone and dead and won't be making a comeback even if one brain damaged guy teaches his dog to salute like they did.

  • Do I think it's stupid they're jailing this guy and that his dog now needs a new home because of that? Yes, I do.

However, I live in the United States where I can have and display any opinion no matter how stupid or how offensive. I can walk down the road with a T-shirt of Hitler if I choose to.

What people need to understand is that things are very, very different in Germany because Germany has to make amends for World War II. Germany bans many Nazi symbols and expressions, punishable by law - such as the Hitler salute, various runic insignia, etc.

EVERYONE who lives in Germany knows this. Heck, German militaria dealers have to cover up swastikas and sell items with a disclaimer that they are being sold for educational purposes only and in accordance to paragraph 86 of the StGB.

Even someone who is brain damaged would know this living in Germany. This guy has been warned (and fined) for the offensive salute previously, so nobody should be surprised that he was jailed this time around.

And you'd be surprised how NOT "long gone and dead" the Nazis are in Germany. First, lots of old Nazis are still alive. And plenty of young neo-Nazis would love to see the Nazis in power again. It's no wonder Germany is so very touchy about the subject.

  • I grew up in post WWII England and was raised on war coupons. My family's lives were drastically changed by the Nazis and I am not offended by this. It just goes to show that the Germans still don't understand what freedom means. They need to reunite the dog and his owner. The poor man is brain damaged,he probably does not grasp what Nazis represent. The Germans need to grow up and jail real terrorists who are a real threat to mankind, not some poor old brain damaged man who loves his dog.

  • I think the man deserves his dog back. Of course, anyone can understand how offensive it is to teach an innocent dog how to salute like a Nazi, but is the dog actually going to harm anyone because of it? In my opinion, most likely not. There's a difference between learning a salute and actually attacking. Besides, if this man is brain-damaged, I doubt he really knows the severity of his actions, and I doubt he planned on teaching his dog to attack because he would have done it already. I think they should give the dog back to the man.

  • I DO NOT THINK HE SHOULD GET HIS DOG BACK, REASON FOR THIS IS THAT AS QUOTED HE WAS GOING TO PUT THE DOG DOWN HIMSELF ON APRIL 30,2008, SO THE SHOULD LET HIM OUT OF JAIL AND LET HIM BE BUT WITH OUT HIS DOG. UNLESS HIS CHARGES ARE DROPPED AND HE HAS NO FEES, SO HE WILL HAVE MONEY TO BUY DOG FOOD AND NOT PUT THE DOG TO SLEEP.... I LOVE ANIMALS AND THEY DESERVE TO BE TREATED GOOD.....
