Love of Basset Hounds Sparks Award Winning Writing Career
The success of Sue Owens Wright's career is no mystery,
but you'll love the mystery she's created for her crime-solving
basset hound in Howling Bloody Murder.
Sacramento CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2004 -- Sue Owens Wright,
author of Howling Bloody Murder, which introduced Cruiser,
the curious basset hound, has won the Maxwell Award in the
Dog Writers' Association of America's 2003 writing competition.
Wright's feature article "Waddling in Dwight," about the
Illinois Basset Waddle that appeared in the summer 2003 issue
(#80) of Mystery Scene magazine, won in the Magazine Feature
in General Interest Magazine category. It marked Wright's
second nomination for the DWAA award in three years.
Published by Deadly Alibi Press, Howling Bloody Murder rode
waves of popularity, as it was one of the few small press
novels reviewed (favorably, of course) by Publisher's Weekly.
It was also a Top 10 pick by the Library Journal and named
Best Dog Fiction by Romantic Times BookClub. Online and print
reviews around the country praised Wright's novel, centered
on a crime-solving basset hound.
Author Sue Owens Wright wouldn’t be bothered at all if you
said her literary career is going to the dogs. She adores
dogs and loves writing about them. Her pup fiction, creative
non-fiction and doggerel have appeared in Dog Fancy; The Bark;
Animal Fair; Pets, Part of the Family and Canada’s Dogs, Dogs,
Dogs! among others. She was recently featured in Popular Dogs
magazine. Sue has done interviews for radio and television
stations from the Hawaiian Islands to the Great Lakes. She
will be appearing February 19 at the Left Coast Crime mystery
conference in Monterey.
