Mia, a female Golden Retriever has won the top prize as the
best home wrecking pet in the United States. The contest,
dubbed "Is Your Pet a Home Wrecker" is sponsored
by The Maids Home Services, along with Arm & Hammer and
PETCO, and recognizes the most destructive family pet in America.
The judges analyzed more than 2,000 stories of home wrecking
pets, including birds that damaged dry wall, cats that rip
up wallpaper, and dogs that tear up carpet. Mia won out over
all of them. Her owner, Judy DiDomenico of Commack, NY, received
a free year's housecleaning from The Maids Home Services,
$100.00 gift certificates from PETCO, and an Arm & Hammer
gift basket.
Just how much damage has Mia done to her owner's home? She's
been on a path of destruction for a long time. Kitchen demolition
appears to be her specialty.
"Our six month old golden retriever puppy is presently in
the final stages of demolition in our kitchen. She has removed
a good portion of the wall paper as well as the linoleum floor.
She even began chewing up one of our kitchen drawers. "Mia"
our puppy chewed up both the telephone cord and the television
wire. After eating several of my refrigerator magnets, my
collection is now in storage bags in our basement. We have
learned the hard way that nothing can be left in the kitchen
when we are not home. Mia has eaten newspapers, bananas (peels
and all) and even her own bed. She is now known as "Mia the
Maniac" - We spend more time "Mia" proofing our house than
we ever had to do for our two sons. We have offered Mia's
service to several of our friends who want to renovate their
homes!"
To enter the contest, pet owners had to submit photos of
their pets' handywork, along with stories of what they did.
