Doghero.Com has announced the winners of its 2004 Dog Story
Contest for true life dog stories. The winning stories were
selected from a field of 200 entries, for their entertainment
and their ability to touch readers' hearts. The stories get
to the core of the relationship between dogs and people, and
tells us why we love dogs.
In the winning entry, "A Dog Named Jeff", author
Wayne McDowell, shares his memory of a mascot in Vietnam and
the events of one terrible night when the camp was invaded.
The folks at Doghero.com advises readers to prepare to cry
when they read this story.
The second place winner, "Sleet", author Sandra
McLeod Humphrey introduces the most unique dog one might ever
meet. A dog who does not quite look the way he is suppose
to look or act the way he should but whose antics are endlessly
entertaining.
Taking third place is one from author Pamela Jenkins, entitled,
"Nothing That Can’t Be Fixed", a story of a stray
dog and the tough decision she has to make. Find out what
she chooses and decide for yourself if she made the right
decision.
Fourth place went to author Alta Follis, where she introduces
a lonely World War II veteran in her story, "The War
Hero", and tells about the difference a dog made in her
life when she was a child.
Fifth place went to "A Small Gift", where author
Neil Mace brings the sport of field trials alive with his
recollection of a dog who would rather race than hunt.
Ten additional stories were awarded Honorable Mention. All
fifteen winning stories can be read online at the Doghero.com
website for free, by visiting here: http://www.doghero.com/
Doghero.com is the official website for a new book entitled,
"Canine Courage: The Heroism of Dogs", which is
a collection of true stories that feature the heroism in untrained
dogs, such as "Bo", a Labrador Retriever who dived
underwater to pull his trapped owner from under a canoe, and
"Woodie" a Collie mix who jumped off an 80 foot
cliff to save her owner's fiancée from drowning.
