Doggone Crazy! Announces New Product for Teachers and Humane
Educators
Doggone Crazy! today announced the availability of the
Teacher Kit that supports the dog bite prevention education
program for elementary school children, called Be a Tree.
Campbellville, ON (PRWEB) May 28, 2004 – Doggone Crazy!,
maker of the family board game Doggone Crazy! today announced
the availability of the Be a Tree™ Teacher Kit for dog bite
prevention education. This kit supports the innovative education
program for elementary school children offered by the non-profit
organization Doggone Safe™. The kit contains all the materials
required to allow teachers and humane educators to present
the interactive Be a Tree program. A substantial price reduction
is offered for orders received by June 15, 2004.
The Be a Tree program is comprised of a 15-20 minute interactive
learning session followed by a further 20 minutes of activities
that have kids out of their seats and shouting while they
practice what they have learned about safety around dogs.
Retired elementary school teacher Sherri Utter says of the
Be a Tree program, “My experience as a classroom teacher of
35 years taught me that children learn by doing, practicing
and playing. The program "Be a Tree" is a great teaching tool.
Lots of role playing and repetition until the children have
a patterned response to an aggressive dog. Fast paced and
fun.” No live dogs are used in the program.
The kit contains large format full color heavy-weight posters
of dogs showing different body postures and sending various
messages. There are also posters showing the tools that children
can put in their toolbox (in their heads) to help keep them
safe. A colorful spinner is also provided to keep the action
moving and control the outcome of the second half of the program.
Kids act out scenarios while the audience shouts encouragement,
they pretend to be dogs and they play Simon Says. The program
is cleverly designed to minimize the “don’t do this and don’t
do that” types of messages. A video showing a demonstration
of the presentation of the program to a group of third grade
students illustrates how the program should flow and demonstrates
how well the students are engaged.
According to Canine Behavior Specialist and Early Childhood
Educator, Jennifer Shryock of Family Paws, the Be a Tree program
is fun and interactive and involves kids every step of the
way as they learn the tools to make safe choices around familiar
and unfamiliar dogs. “I am impressed when I return to the
classes several weeks later and the kids still remember all
of the tools and can tell me some things that dogs do that
indicate they may be stressed. This program empowers kids
to make better choices through awareness and education. The
Be a Tree teacher's kit comes with beautiful clear poster-sized
photos that are helpful for teaching children and adults alike.
The easy-to-follow script is conveniently printed on the back
of each poster to help the presenter stay on track and be
at ease during their presentation.”
Doggone Crazy! is offering $20CAD off the regular $75CAD
price of the kit for orders received by June 15, 2004. The
kit can be shipped anywhere in the world.
