9/11 Survivor and his Seeing-Eye Dog to Serve as Grand Marshal
of Patriot Day Parade
Michael Hingson and his seeing-eye dog Roselle will serve
as the Grand Marshals of the inaugural Grand Rapids Jaycees
Patriot Day Parade on Saturday, September 11, 2004 in Grand
Rapids, Michigan.
(PRWEB) June 18, 2004 -- Michael Hingson was sitting in his
office on the 78th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade
Center the morning of September 11, 2001. Blind since birth,
Hingson along with his guide dog Roselle and co-workers navigated
the 78 flights of stairs to safety, escaping just moments
before the South Tower collapsed.
On Saturday, September 11, 2004, Hingson and Roselle will
serve as the Grand Marshals of the inaugural Patriot Day Parade
in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The parade is organized by the
Grand Rapids Jaycees.
"We are honored that Michael Hingson and Roselle will serve
as the Grand Marshals of this special parade. Some of us can
only imagine what it must have been like to personally experience
what happened on 9/11, but Michael doesn't have to. He lived
it," says parade Chair Rebecca Cajka of the Grand Rapids Jaycees.
In addition to paying tribute to those who lost their lives
in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the parade will also honor
the nation's armed forces and local police, fire, and rescue
personnel. The theme for the parade is "Summon the Heroes".
