Lick the Workday Blahs - Take Your Dog To Work!
On Friday, June 25, 2004, companies everywhere will be
participating in Pet Sitters International's (PSI) 6th Annual
Take Your Dog To Work DayŽ , sponsored by Iams Dog Foods.
King, NC (PRWEB) June 7, 2004--It's a typical day at the
office. You're under a tight deadline, juggling too many projects
to count. The report your boss wanted yesterday is somewhere
under the huge pile of papers on your desk and your e-mails
won't end! What's a person to do? Let your best friend help
you de-stress and lick the workday blahs! People can't help
but relax and smile when they pet a dog. So for at least one
day, Take Your Dog To Work!
On Friday, June 25, 2004, companies everywhere will be participating
in Pet Sitters International's (PSI) 6th Annual Take Your
Dog To Work DayŽ , sponsored by Iams Dog Foods. Pet Sitters
International created this doggie day to celebrate the great
companions dogs make and to encourage adoptions from local
shelters, humane societies and rescue groups.
In addition, this year's event will help raise funds for
the efforts of the Turken Foundation (www.turkenfoundation.org),
with a portion of the proceeds from all TYDTWDay products
being donated to the cause. The Turken Training for Adoption
Program recruits volunteers nationwide to teach basic obedience
and socialization skills to shelter animals to make them more
adoptable.
More than 64 million U.S. households report owning a pet,
a total of 65 million dogs nationwide.* In the average workplace,
that translates to 62 percent of employees who own dogs. Each
year, more and more of them are bringing their canine co-workers
along for a day on the job.
Studies show that having a dog at work can create a more
relaxed and productive work environment. Introduce some tail-wagging
wage earners to your workforce and you will likely find that
creativity, interpersonal skills and positive work relationships
will increase-while stress levels and absenteeism decrease!
"What a difference a day makes," states Patti Moran, president
of Pet Sitters International. "People bringing their dogs
to work for one day to celebrate Take Your Dog To Work Day
can make a huge difference in the adoption rates at shelters
everywhere. Dog-less co-workers will see the human-animal
bond enjoyed by their colleagues who are dogparents-and then
adopt pets from local animal shelters. It's also important
to note that there are thousands of older animals that deserve
a second chance, too. The 2004 TYDTWDay poster dog, Little
Nicky, is a great example of how senior dogs can also become
great pets."
Little Nicky is a 12-year-old papillon from St. Charles,
Missouri, where he lives with his mom, Diana Hamilton. He
was left at a shelter in Chicago when he was 10 years old
before being rescued by the Papillon Club of America Rescue
and placed in foster care in Minnesota. Little Nicky went
on to St. Louis to continue foster care with Hamilton and
her husband, Jim. The couple adopted him in December 2001.
Pet Sitters International offers these tips to make TYDTWDay
successful at your workplace.
Establish a TYDTWDay coordinator, who will sign up participants,
establish guidelines and incorporate activities for celebrating.
Only take well-groomed, well-behaved, flea and tick-free
dogs to work. They should also be house trained and socialize
well with other pets and people. Designate an area for the
dogs to do their business and be sure everyone knows their
responsibility to clean up after their dogs. You know your
dog best. If he/she wouldn't be happy at work, take a photo
instead. PSI has many suggestions for celebrating without
your pooch, too.
Don't forget to doggie-proof your work area, and take along
comforts from home like a toy, treats, food, food dish, leash,
bed, crate or anything else that will make your dog comfortable.
(PSI's Doggie Briefcase is ideal for this!)
Work with local shelters to help them get homeless pets adopted
on TYDTWDay! It's what the day is all about!
