Can the new Bush-Bites and Kerry-Waffles predict the outcome
of the 2004 Presidential Election?
by Steve Johnson, staff
August 30, 2004
VanDogh Creations, a company in Beaverton, Oregon, has introduced
two new kinds of dog treats shaped in the likeness of President
George W. Bush, and Senator John F. Kerry, named "Bush-BITES"
and "Kerry-Waffles". Now, your dog has the ability
to vote which candidate he or she prefers.
"Our
goal is to give people a fun way to participate by letting
their dogs do the talking," said Chris Jones, the creator.
"We found that by poking fun at both parties, we have been
able to initiate some serious discussion without raising hackles."
Jones has teamed up with Portland-based Great Dog Bakery
Chef, Daryl Ostrovsky, to produce the handmade peanut butter
treats. Chef Daryl perfected his special recipe after graduating
from the School of Culinary Arts in Atlanta, Georgia.
Twenty percent of the net proceeds from all sales of Bush-BITES,
Kerry-Waffles and related merchandise will be donated to Big
Brothers Big Sisters of America, First Book, and National
Education for Assistance Dog Services. Kyle Zimmer, President
and Co-Founder of First Book added, "There's not a dog-gone
thing wrong with giving a kid a book."
The all-natural snacks are selling like crazy and can be
purchased on their website at: www.vandogh.com.
The first day the cookies went on the market Bush-Bites outsold
Kerry-Waffles by more than 2-to-1. As of this writing Bush-Bites
are still in the lead with 73% of the vote.
Bush-BITES and Kerry-Waffles each come in a bag of 13 biscuits,
and sells for $7.99 each.
