AKC Companion Animal Recovery Introduces Pet Recovery
Database With Bilingual Option
by Steve Johnson, staff
June 17, 2004
The American Kennel Club's "Companion Animal Recovery"
program now allows people to request a spanish-speaking pet
recovery coordinator. When a pet owner, veterinarian, or animal
shelter representative contacts the program, they can request
to speak with a spanish-speaking coordinator.
The AKC claims this is another step in their quest to eliminate
the thousands of "lost pet" signs posted around
the country.
The Companion Animal Recovery program is a database registry
of more than 2.3 million microchipped pets, the largest such
database in the United States. When an animal is lost, or
if a lost animal is found, the program can be contacted to
help return the animal to its owner. The program registers
pets of a variety of microchip types.
"This is another step toward making sure every lost pet is
reunited with its family," said Dr. Carmen Battaglia, President
of AKC Companion Animal Recovery. "Adding a bilingual option
to our service provides a valuable resource for the ever-growing
number of Spanish-speaking pet owners across the country and
also reinforces our standing as the leader within the industry."
