New Dating Website Matches Compatible Dogs
New Dating Website Matches Compatible Dogs
Dog owners can search for other dog owners, or dogs can
search for other dogs
September 5, 2004
A new dating website launched on September 1, 2004, allowing
pet owners to find other pet owners. But your dog or cat can
also use it too, matching dogs with other dogs, or even dogs
with cats! Thousands of enthusiastic pet owners have already
flocked to the website.
DateMyPet.com was
created on the philosophy of "If you want to date me,
you have to date my pet", assuming that potential couples
can make the dating process go more smoothly, if they have
compatible pets.
The website is the brainchild of Robert Yau, a self-professed
geek and entrepreneur, with the help of his faithful dog,
Hershey. The idea came to Yau while walking Hershey in a nearby
neighborhood park. Hershey, was always a magnet for conversation,
with people stopping to admire him and talk about their own
pets. Yau says, "total strangers would be talking like old
friends," and it became obvious to him that pets provide that
instant connection.
Datemypet.com has already attracted a lot of media attention,
garnering coverage on "Live with Regis & Kelly," USA Today,
LA Times.com, and even Asahi TV from Japan, which featured
one of the site's New York member on a date with the station's
reporter and his dog.
Born and raised in London, Robert Yau now lives in California
with his dog Hershey. With a computer science degree, he came
to Silicon Valley, where he worked for a number of successful
start-up companies. A technologist and a patent holder, datemypet.com
is Yau's latest and most beloved venture.
