The New York Dog is now offering free obituaries for recently
departed dogs.
September 30, 2004
A new magazine for dogs, "The New York Dog" will
feature obituaries for departed dogs. The magazine is touting
their three-page obituary feature to be the world's first
obituary column specifically for dogs.
"These are not death notices or part of the classified section,"
said publisher Gregg Oehler. "They are actual obituaries:
beautifully written, incredibly moving pieces paying tribute
to dogs that have died in the last month from all over America.
This is a free service and we are already overwhelmed by the
number of people that want us to include their dogs."
"The emotional impact of losing a dog is devastating,"
said Mr. Oehler. "And it is made worse by a lack of understanding
about that impact. This is our way of acknowledging the owner's
loss in a dignified way."
The New York Dog, a 108-page full-color glossy, contains
canine haute couture, dog horoscopes and advice from a pet
shrink. Features include how to win your dog in a custody
battle, dogs on the Atkins diet and the race for the White
House kennel.
