In the spirit of the ever-popular wave of television reality
shows, comes "The Dog Whisperer", a new show being
carried by the National Geographic Channel, will feature Cesar
Millan, a world renowned dog behaviorist, going into the homes
of problem dogs and their frustrated owners, and documenting
the remarkable transitions that take place under his guidance.
The show, which airs daily beginning September 13, 2004 at
6:00 pm ET, and 3:00 pm PT, will feature such scenarios as
a Chihuahua named "Nunu" who growls and shows her
fangs whenever someone greets her owner, and a Shetland Sheepdog
named "Rana" who barks and barks whenver the toaster
pops. There's also a 160 pound Great Dane with a phobia of
shiny floors; an Entlebucher Mountain Dog obsessed with chasing
after light and shadows; and a hairless Chinese Crested who
won't stop jumping, licking and greeting till guests are so
exhausted they have to leave.
Cesar has a gift for communicating with dogs and is able
to see into their world. Having been referred to as the "Dr.
Phil of Dogs", he is able to help many dogs. However,
it's also the dog owners he must help too, noting that many
owners fail to maintain dominance and allow their pets to
take control.
"Many dog trainers strive to have the animal fulfill the
need of the human first," says Cesar. "With my method, I first
connect with the mind of the dog, and then I connect with
them on a physical level. This process allows me to communicate
with the dog and rehabilitate the dog's behavior. Once this
is accomplished, the animal will happily and willingly fulfill
the needs of the human."
Cesar has over 20 years of experience working with dogs.
He first developed his skills on his grandfather's farm in
Mexico, and later worked at the California Canine Academy.
Today, as founder of the Dog Psychology Center in Los Angeles,
he fields several calls each day from desperate owners. Some
of his clientele includes celebrities such as Will Smith,
Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Hillary Duff, and Ridley Scott.
