PetRefresh®, Chemical-Free, Natural Bottled Water for Pets,
Goes Global
PetRefresh®, the first bottled water created for pets
is gaining international attention.
Everett, WA (PRWEB) June 28, 2004 -- When Bill Fels founded
Springmill Products Inc. (SPI) and began marketing PetRefresh®,
the first chemical-free, natural, bottled water for pets,
he was thinking of the potential of the approximately 60 million
cats and dogs in the U.S. population.
But to his surprise, Fels’ message of healthy water for pets
has generated interest beyond U.S. borders, and PetRefresh®
is rapidly becoming a global product.
The first shipment of PetRefresh® left for Singapore on June
15, 2004 with 10944 bottles in the 2-liter and 591 milliliter
sizes. The shipment included new flavors Parsley-chlorophyll,
aimed at pet breath problems; and a fish-flavored water (using
preservative-free Orange Roughy), which is targeted to the
feline crowd. SPI’s chicken and natural-flavor varieties were
also included.
William Ho, a dog breeder and pet product distributor in
Singapore, will be SPI’s distributor for a region that includes
Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia.
Ho contacted SPI after researching the handful of companies
that currently offer bottled water for dogs. “PetRefresh®
was the one that took the pet’s health most seriously. The
others seemed to be making something of a joke about it. And
PetRefresh® is the only one for cats and other pets also.
When I spoke with Bill I knew his mission was getting the
healthiest water for pets. As someone who loves and shows
my dogs, I knew I could work with him”
Mr. Ho has talked with retailers in his area and has been
assured the market is ready for PetRefresh®. “People here
think of their pets as family and want to give them high-quality
natural products,” he explains.
For many of the same reasons, Darleen Kuba, well-known in
CA political circles and owner of Kuba Associates, a noted
CA lobbying firm, has signed on with SPI to handle distribution
in Korea.
Kuba was watching the evening news, which featured a story
on PetRefresh®. “As a person who believes in maintaining my
personal vitality and health, I feel it's equally important
to share these values with an important member of my family
- my little Scruffy,” she explains.
Kuba contacted Fels, obtained the water and tried it, and
was sold. “With PetRefresh®, Scruffy gets valuable minerals
and vitamins, as well as proper hydration with clean and pure
water. Her vitality and glistening coat confirm that PetRefresh®
is providing an important source of nutrients for her,” notes
Kuba. “Plus, she loves the taste.” Kuba is developing the
distribution channel in Korea for the product.
Alex Cullen, president of Scot Pet Foods, Ltd., Glasgow,
UK, is working with Fels to arrange details for the licensing
of PetRefresh® in the UK. Cullen is a manufacturer and distributor
of natural pet treats that are sold through various U.K grocery
chains. Cullen believes PetRefresh® is “bound to be a success.”
The overseas interest, none of which was solicited by SPI,
took Fels by surprise. “It’s wonderful, but I planned on launching
a new flavor, Grandma Duffy’s Old Fashioned Flea and Tick
Repeller, this summer. Instead, I’m filling orders and looking
for a bigger bottling plant,” he says, laughing.
About Springmill Products, Inc.
SPI is a privately held company. Its patent-pending PetRefresh®
was introduced to the Seattle area in March, 2003. Unlike
tap water, no chemicals are used in the sterilization process
for PetRefresh®. SPI’s three-step purification process uses
ultraviolet light, ozone, and selective micronfiltration to
allow PetRefresh® to deliver water packed with vital nutrients
pets need. These nutrients are eliminated in tap water and
filtered water for humans.
Fels came upon the idea after he noticed his dog, Jason,
wasn’t drinking tap water. Fels developed “Jason’s water”
and began giving bottles away to friends and neighbors to
use for their pets. The local response was so positive that
PetRefresh® was born.
Fels says his basic argument is based on the fact that 50%
of the population drinks bottled water. “My thought was that
if your water tastes bad to you, how does it taste to your
pet? And how healthy is it?”
