When your beloved dog or cat is not long for this Earth,
there is a way to preserve your faithful companion: pet cloning.
ForeverPet Biotechnology Inc., a life sciences company in
Los Angeles, CA, just recently announced it can successfully
produce a clone of your cat. A cat owner can have a sample
of their pet's DNA banked at their facilities, and when the
owner feels ready, ForeverPet can will produce a real, living,
cat clone. The company is currently planning on a similar
service for dogs.
The cat cloning service works like this:
-
You arrange an appointment with a veterinarian approved
by ForeverPet.
-
The vet will take a tissue sample from your cat's skin
-
The tissue sample is banked at the ForeverPet facility.
-
When you feel ready, ForeverPet will produce a clone
of your cat.
-
The cloning process takes between 6 to 9 months.
The costs for this service, are as expected, very expensive.
Prices for cat cloning, as of September 1, 2004, are:
-
Cloning Positioning Fee - $2995.00 - This fee
serves to reserve your position in line and provides a
firm date by which the technology team will begin the
cloning process.
-
Documentation Fee - $950.00 - This fee covers
all paperwork required to complete the order.
-
Cloning Service - $19,995 - This is the full cost
of cloning a pet cat.
-
Additional Clones - $4,995 - For those people
who find it difficult to have just one.
Obviously, cat cloning is not for everyone. But as with anything
else, the technology should become cheaper as time goes on.
